Since a few people don't like the rankings as they are because they don't truly represent the power of most characters, the following is a more accurate ranking. I didn't create this, it was on another forum. At the end is a link to the original page and a couple others like it. Disclaimer: The list ain't perfect. If you can make better, go for it. Also, the list only covers Marvel and DC (and all the comics from publishers they own). [It might take me a while to get this all in right so save your comments until the end please.]

Will someone fill me in on the One Above All and the Heart of the Universe? I always thought Living Tribunal was the most powerful in Marvel.

Aside from a few entries, mainly concerning lower tiers, I think it's fairly accurate. Good job to whoever did it.

Buckshot, this could be an cool article on the site. Could go under "concepts" I would think. We'd just have to put it in our own words of course.

Well I'll do that then and if it's not enough I can always edit it later. Sound good?

EDIT: Actually, I have a couple questions. Should it be two concepts, with DC and Marvel separate or should they be together? Should I just add them to the Marvel and DC universe entries that already exist or create new ones? Tell me what you guys think.

You could just name the concepts "Marvel Power Rankings" and "DC Power Rankings". Insert a short intro stating what it's about and then a large list of names... that's it, I would assume.

Marvel and DC should be separate, otherwise it would feel incomplete without Image, Wildstorm, Top Cow, etc. power rankings...

On the other matter, maybe include a short stub with the general idea in the Marvel and DC Universe concept pages and create new pages with the full article?

mmm Maybe you should wait until one of the staff members answers...

I was going to do them as one thing but separate from the main Marvel/DC pages, but I think I'll end up doing it the way you suggested, seems better. I'll wait for the staff though.

It would be really great to set up some kind of table and place the two side-by-side. I don't know if they are meant to be viewed that way, but if so it would be very beneficial to see them presented as such. (ie. Superman and Thanos are Tier 14 on their respective lists. Does this mean they are in the same relative power class? Or do the two lists have no relation to one another.)

In addition, it would be fantastic to see our community develop comparative lists with the other publisher's characters. "

I wouldn't look at Tier #'s, look at the labels. Tier 14 is planetary scale in Marvel but in DC, planetary is Tier 13. And I agree, doing our own lists for other characters would be great.

I say make 2 different pages. And link to them on the DC and Marvel concept pages.

This will be good for our google search results too. People search for things like "List of DC Characters" and they might end up getting: http://www.comicvine.com/browse/&pubId=10&gId=2 Hopefully as Comicvine grows we will become more and more the defacto site that google sends people to for Comic results. So my reasoning is, make specific pages for things and really elaborate on them, it makes it easier for Google to get people to our pages. That's what we want, to be the best and most interesting source of comic knowledge.

That list is missing The Sentry just so you know I think he would go on Top Tier 15 or at the very least 16.

Yeah, there's always going to be a huge amount missing. I don't quite understand some of the rationale used for rankings, in terms of "power" especially for the divisions between "street levels". Is it "who beats who"? Is it in terms of dangerousness? I am just curious how they divide up "street level", and why they wouldn't all be one class.

I mean, to assume that Batman and the Joker are equal in "power level" (I'm using a lot of quotes, as I don't know the definitions) is ridiculous. The Joker is an insane serial killer who sets up bizarre traps. But many of the lower "street level" characters could hand him his ass in a fight.

But, of course, Buckshot was good enough to pre-empt this and say we didn't have to agree. Which is good. Since "in-continuity", many of these lower level characters have beaten the higher level ones.

The list looks good, I think some are open to debate and some vary depending on who writes them. I like the idea of lists for individual publishers, but it might be nice when that's up to work on a comparative list. I think Spidey is as powerful as some of the people two tiers above him (Torch, Iceman). Arcangel Gabriel appears twice in the DC list, I dunno if that's an error or if there are two.

"The list really only takes into account the powers of characters, not necessarily how they would use their powers, so while a very intelligent character might actually be able to beat a more powerful character two tiers up, that doesn't automatically move them up."

I just wrote the first part of the pages and that line of it addresses your Spiderman issue, but do you really think spiderman is on the same level as someone like torch, who can go supernova, or iceman, who can control all moisture and could freeze the Earth if he really wanted to? I'm not sure about the Gabriel thing but there are a couple other people show up more than once. Sometimes it's two people with the same name or the same person but different versions.

Buckshot says:

"I just wrote the first part of the pages and that line of it addresses your Spiderman issue, but do you really think spiderman is on the same level as someone like torch, who can go supernova, or iceman, who can control all moisture and could freeze the Earth if he really wanted to?"

Point taken, although that does start to imply that a power's worth is measured by it's destructive potential (I didn't realise Iceman was quite THAT powerful). Looking at his tier, I'd say he is more powerful than Wolverine or Jubilee as he is stronger, faster, more agile, precognitive to danger and able to cling to walls (he has more powers than both of them together and they are both more destructive and with greater utilty). I think that could be levelled at Reed Richards (who can only stretch his body if we take skills out) and all Cyclops can do is shoot force blasts which would be easily avoided by the Spider Sense.

My point is that some are open to debate, which is why it might be good to allow debate on them and if we achieve a concensus (ok, now I'm dreaming) see about shifting them. But I think it would be better to put them up first, it is a good list, and then discuss alterations (like Spidey a tier up) one or two at a time.

Yeah, that's a good idea and it would help make it "ours". I put on the entries that before you edit the page, you should discuss it in the battles board so maybe this would we the place we discuss alterations to the rankings.

Just because you don't know about TOAA doesn't mean he stops being #1. Did you try to look for any information on the One Above All? I know there's some on wikipedia and marvel.com but I couldn't tell you any comic source.

The Time Keeper says:

"Okay, cool! I apologize in advance, because I know I've asked this question before, but I can't remember the answer, if one was given. Is there a website or comic book reference where I can look up The One Who is Above All? I say that we put the Living Tribunal at #1 in the Marvel Universe, but I only say that because I don't know diddley about The One Who is Above All. Anyone know about "The One"?"

TOAA, the non-Celestial-non-Gundam looking one, is essentially God in the Marvel Universe. Living Tribunal is his whipping boy.

God? On the Marvel rankings I would put God in tier 7 or maybe 8 at the highest.

I mean the figurative God. I mean, his name says it all. "The One Above All" He's the man in charge of the whole shebang. 616, 982, 1610, all of 'em.

And thanks, Buckshot. I really liked the icon. And it took me a long time to crop. >_>

Phoenix Force should be in tier 7, Silver Surfer should be in tier 13. And I'm not sure, but I think the Enigma-Force should be in tier 7 aswell. And Captain Mar-Vell should probably be lower too.

And actually, I think most human/oid characters' power levels are up to debate.

Good list.

Actually, Silver Surfer should probably be around tier 11 or so now that he's once again Galactus' herald.

for the person who was asking about the one above all he/she/it is the most powerful being in the universe the divine creator, to put it simply "god" the heart of the universe is the most powerful artifact in the marvel universe anyone who posses it will be able to control all aspects of the universe thanos of titan is the only one who can absorb the heart of the universe because of his body being able to absorb high levels of energy and so he does so and beats the "great powers of the universe" which consist of death/eternity/galactus/the celestials/infinity/oblivion and also beats the living tribunal but its unclear if the living tribunal that thanos defeats is himself or just a mere avatar so the living tribunal may still be more powerful than the heart of the universe

This list does NOT rank cosmic artifacts, especially those that elevate characters that are already riduculously powerful to truly ludicrous levels.

You certainly are selling 'The Heart of the Universe', do have stock in it or what?

I'd rank Alien Entity up with Eternity and Sise-Neg near the Living Tribunal.

It's more on the Marvel side, since no Monitors or Anti Monitors or the Spectre were put on the list. But a great list though.

Awesome. Kinda wish there was a more accurate DC intelligence scale though. Anyone know where I could find one? As a huge DC fan it would really be appreciated.

I'm just curious why The Doctor is on the DC list.
