@firelordxmako: Kuvira is naturally a battle tactician and single handily took on bandits without a sweat which Mako has shown to have some trouble with.

Kuvira also bested her own master Suyin.

And stalemated Korra.

This isn't a skill that is common with fire benders. With only seen a handful of fire benders that have shown the ability to use this skill (Ozai, Aang, Korra, Iroh II) are the only ones that I can name that have used this technique. There isn't any evidence that has shown him to be able to use this technique.

@mr_clockwork91:

All Kuvira did was hit them with metal bands and they someohow went down that easy. The fire field would help Mako a lot. He could easily draw fire around Kuvira and use it as cover to charge his lightning for a one hit kill.

Yeah, cause once she hit them she could control their movement by controlling the bands

He did to some degree against a random soldier, at least that's what it looked like, but Kuvira's far more skilled than a nameless soldier

@firelordxmako: You're forgetting that Kuvira is an earthbender originally, so they almost always have the field advantage.

Mako went down like a sack of potatoes to some equalists who are not benders when he himself is a "probender".

@mr_clockwork91: to be fair

1. That was book 1 Mako, he's improved since then

2. Equalists are trained to take down benders, and those chi blockers were very good

@arcus: True but in a world full of benders that have abilities to kill you, I think it goes without saying you have to be very adaptable regardless if they can bend or not.

Mako takes it

the reason he didn't do much in part was simply because of CIS, in part 1 he displayed lightning bending before flames and the writers want to make korra important so they forgot that conveniently.

@firelordxmako: He has only done that once to Amon who was 2 feet in front of him while being blood bended. Not hard to blast someone that close to you. Kuvira has shown to systematically breakdown enemies from afar then move in for the finishing blow.

The other time he did use it was against Ming Hua but she was enveloped in water which again was not impressive, just point and shoot at the water.

Yh, I agree. Mako lightning generation was really impressive. i think that was the first time we have seen continuous lightning generation.

Lin also had trouble with the same type of fodder. Suyin had trouble with Lin while Lin was exhausted and sick. Kuvira had trouble with Suyin.

It's obvious that the soldiers Kuvira had in her super weapon were her elite. They were much more capable of fighting master benders 1v1 than any of her other metalbenders had been shown.

Actually if you watch the fight between Kuvira and Suyin you can see that Suyin was holding back A LOT in the fight with Lin.

Also Mako got pushed back and hurt against fodder, while only time Lin was pushed back in the fight against fodder was by a surprise attack after that she jumped in and started dominating making the fodder just jump around and dodge. She also dealt with the fodder pretty fast, considering Mako had hard and long time.

@gxrevolution96: Funny that you chose that lightning scene out of his other because if you re-watch the scene it cuts to Mako using lightning, there is no proof he didn't make hand gestures behind Amon.

In the last fight against Amon he produced "instant" lightning and shot Amon point blank range which he survived and showed no fatigue from, so his "no gesture" lightning is pretty weak.

Also the lightning damage against Ming Hua doesn't count because of the obvious.

Mako fought a metal bender in an area made of Metal. Both him and Bolin (who cna't bend meal) where severely comprimised.

That being said, Kuivara does win.

You can clearly see him generating the lightning instantly. He moves his shoulders and extends his arm and then poof;

Even if Mako loses it wont be a stomp. Like someone stated he fought a metalbender in a enclosed space filled with metal with a giant spirit nuclear reactor in the middle of the room... Mako can generate lightning at any rate from no charge to the lightning dance.

@sirneko: Sigh... He was fighting in a enclosed space filled with metal. If Mako used any big fire blast he would hit the core resulting in a burst of spirit energy flying out as we seen when the fight started.

@gxrevolution96: I don't see him generating it instantly, maybe you have some director's cut edition, I wouldn't know. I only see Amon and then cut to him pointing his finger to fire lightning.

Also like I said Amon easily tanked his lightning, he had to fire blast stuff on him and even after that Amon was like "w/e" and still went after them.

Once Mako shoots lightning Kuvira can just block with the metal on his armor and then shoot Mako's hands together.

Taking metal out of metal, like using your surroundings to fight is really hard, not something a fodder could really do in a closed fight. We also only saw him hitting Mako with 1 metal plate, which could have easily been backside of his Armor and every other thing was actually part of his armor that he shot at Mako. Mako also made some vibrations with that fire and he didn't even see it, he got hurt at the same time the fire went against Spirit Wines, instantly after that he started shooting flames everywhere like who cares, hell his first fire hit with his foot just sent wave of fire around.

So saying he was afraid of the Spirit Vines and that metal bender had the home advantage doesn't really cut. If the metal bender was an actual serious bender, 1 bender could have easily taken down both Mako and Bolin by just trapping them inside the metal wall. But since he was a nameless fodder he only threw bunch of shoulder guards at him.

Kuvira is more experienced, faster and a stronger bender.

This is how a real Metal bender fights, taking out of part of the mech and using it in a fight while going toe to toe with 2 different elements.

Yea those real metal benders actually had room to do that. Mako could of easily beat that guard if he wasn't holding back, like instead of burning him he flipped him on the ground and even told bolin to carry them out. That guard was trying to kill Mako.

If this was Bolin I would say Bolin wins. But look at the environment, people. If Mako does drag the fight long enough sooner or later Kuvira's gonna be roast beef. She may shield herself with earth/metal, but if Mako realizes that opening for a feint she's done for. Provided Mako does not get sliced/crushed/humiliated first.

Nothing in that post even comes close to an argument to my last post.

@sirneko:

Certainly Suyin wasn't trying to murder her sister, but at the same time Lin wasn't trying to kill Suyin either. Neither were going all out, and Lin was barely able to stand up straight before engaging. She was exhausted, sweaty, and hallucinating.

As has been said the environment strongly favored that metalbender. He was surrounded by his element in an extremely enclosed space that limited Mako's maneuverability, which is a huge facet of firebending as they lack strong defensive bending techniques, and there was a giant nuclear reactor right next to them that threatened to explode if Mako let off too large a spout of fire. Lin had none of these problems as she could make full use of her agility, maneuverability, and surroundings without inhibition. Mako also couldn't risk shooting lightning in a metal hall next to an explosive source of energy for obvious reasons.

As for your refusal to believe Mako can generate lightning instantly despite having done it numerous times.

The only way Mako wins is if he goes straight for lightning, but even that's not a guaranteed win as we've seen lightning is avoidable. Kuvira 7-8/10

Kuvira. Mako's good, but Kuvira's whole fighting style is based around disabling her opponents and using the environment to her advantage. She has that ability, Mako doesn't.
