If Smaug doesn't resort to fire right away. Kong may have a chance....actually no even at close range I'd argue Smaug is still strong enough to tangle.
If mere fire was hurting Kong, this worries me about his fight with Godzilla. Unless he suddenly becomes immune to heat and grows another 250 feet.....Godzilla is going to beat him in 2 seconds.

More likely they wont fight but team up. The fact is Kong no matter what version was never a good match up for Gojira. You have a giant ape vs a radioactive lizard monsters with nuke breath and massive healing. It will always be one sided unless you change Kongs very nature.
Samug. All he has to do is keep his distance while breathing in fire. Kong seemed pretty susceptible to fire in that scene when he was against Packard.
Weak? This is the most powerful version of Kong to exist outside the one explicitly designed to fight Godzilla in the first Kong vs Godzilla movie, and in that one that had to massively buff him up and give him a new superpower while depowering Godzilla just to make it fair.
@sirfizzwhizz was right. King Kong was never a good fight for Godzilla. The entire premise is ridiculous when you realize the original King Kong came up to Godzilla's shins. Why people are obsessed with seeing this fight I have no idea.

any idea on who they'd team up against? I agree with the rest, given how the original Kong v Godzilla portrayed the fight, it'd basically be a repeat, unless they have Godzilla stick to melee combat, Legendary's version doesn't use his breath nearly as much as Toho's, so it's possible

Having them team up to fight a common villain in the end would be too easy and too predictable. I hope they go all out and make it a strict "King Kong vs Godzilla" movie where it's only them fighting and only against each other. And then have a firm winner. No tie BS.
I thought the napalm scene was there specifically to punctuate Kong's substantial fire resistance as opposed to pinpointing a weakness to it. Also was assuming this was hinting at Kong's ability to resist Big G's atomic breath.

It's confirmed there will be a winner and who cares about predictable plenty of Godzilla movies have similar plots
