Both of them are TCW versions from when they both 1v2ed the Maul brothers.
Both of them are in the same mindset as in their fight with the bros and have 2 lightsabers and are using Jar Kai
@alextheboss: that Maul was a lot stronger than Obi-Wan, he was rage amped like never after Palpatine literally killed his brother in front of him, remember that Savage stomped Dooku while far less rage amped, and Maul is already more powerful normally than Obi even without an amp, yet Palpatine was still just toying with him there, he needed him alive as bait, so that was not really mid diff either, I would recommend reading this blog about it, written by probably biggest SW expert in the history of this site, Silver
Also since, unlike there, here he is going for the kill, as well as fact that Obi-Wan is much weaker, he will just blitz him
I agree under normal circumstances, but Kenobi was fighting extremely well against Maul and Savage in that moment and was probably amped. He should be able to do at least close to as good as Maul did against Sidious. Now if you think Sidious was holding back on Maul that's a different story, but if Sidious fights like he did against Maul, the results should be similar.
@eredin12: Kenobi was also fighting after the death of a long time friend. He knew her longer than Maul knew Savage, and Kenobi cares more about others. However, your point about Sidious wanting to kill Kenobi but not Maul is valid. My only argument is that Kenobi should do about as well against Sidious as Maul did if Sidious fought him like he did Maul. Depending on how much you think Sidious was holding back, he could still theoretically stomp this Kenobi.

But he was not rage amped, that is drawing on the dark side which Obi-Wan does not really do, besides that would only hurt your argumnet, as this is not amped, Obi-Wan

Well not quite since i believe Maul is stronger than Obi in the base, he has ragdolled him before, and here Maul was extremly amped as well
Kenobi had achieved no unique mindset on Florrum. He just started out the arc with the wrong mindset, and was progressively regaining the focus he had lost.
So Obi-Wan rushed out there, didn't realize that Savage Opress was there, thought he was just gonna be fighting some deranged guy, wasn't even sure it was Darth Maul -- thought it could be someone claiming to be Darth Maul -- gets there, it's the worst case scenario: not only is it Darth Maul, but he realizes that he's teamed up with Savage Opress, and he loses that fight rather quickly. He's not in the right mindset.
Um, Ventress and Obi-Wan together are, are kind of stalemating them but are eventually gonna lose in that space, in that situation, um, they need to flee. Unless it's always, y'know, the heroes [inaudible) the villains, that's what made the original trilogy so cool.
Um, when you get to this episode, Obi-Wan is much more focused and ready. Not only that, when Adi Gallia dies he, he gains even more focus and has to kinda right that wrong. Um, he's a very skilled swordsman, so he's not going to lose that fight in that situation -- it's really Maul and Savage who have kind of overextended.
Losing focus to begin with was circumstantial. His ability to handle Maul & Savage is attributed to his skill as a swordsman, and it's confirmed that the duo had taken on too great a burden by attacking him.
Sidious wins but it isn’t easy. Kenobi was considered one of their best. Top 3 assuredly with Yoda and mace above himself. It takes a while but sidious wins.
How so? During Episode III production, Lucas very clearly outlined who is in the same range as the Emperor and who is not, when he was explaining why the Masters who accompanied Mace fell so easily:
When Palpatine easily strikes down Mace's three associate Jedi at the outset of the scene, Knoll says, "Look at this -- Mace brought the B-team!"
"You have to be either Mace or Yoda to compete with the Emperor," Lucas says.
~ The Making of Revenge of the Sith
It's pretty simple. If you're going to go head-to-head with the Emperor, you need to be either Mace or Yoda to not get trounced. Obi-Wan and the rest of the Masters not included.
I'm inclined to say Sidious wins here, but with some decent difficulty if I'm interpreting the OP correctly. If it's purely sabers wouldnt that mean force augmentation is off the table? While Palpy is a master of all 7 forms, I'm thinking his distaste for saber combat may come into play here. Being an elderly man it seems to me that he would be much more reliant on his use of force augmentation to keep pace with younger duelists. Yoda did outduel him in sabers, and while Obi isnt Yodas equal, his skill with Soresu is at least somewhat on par, and if Sidious is restricted to purely his own skills as a duelist this would be a much closer engagement imo.
See above for how prime Obi-Wan -- or any other prominent Master, for that matter -- was supposed to compare to the likes of Mace, Yoda or Sidious.
If there's no Force augmentation, then Sidious will kill himself trying to fight. Obi-Wan won't even need to give it his all.
That is, unless Sidious has been keeping himself in superb physical shape throughout the years.
@lord_tenebrous: In a straight out engagement I agree with you 100% that Obi gets trounced by Sidious. It's only in a scenario where Sidious is forced to exclusively use his saber skills without force augmentation that I would question the superiority of the Dark Lord
