So this is an telepathy battle between Jean Grey and Martian Manhunter. Jean's telepathy is at its full potential, same as the Manhunter.

Who wins in this all-out telepathy battle?

Is Jean at least planetary? Plus J'onn has some amazing TP defenses even under extreme pressure.

Isn't Marvel bringing Jean Grey back as Phoenix, meaning the two are indistinguishable...you don't know here Jean's power ends and the Phoenix Force begins? If so MMH is RIP.

Jean is no slouch, but Manhunter is more impressive. Even her two most recent planetary feats are up in the air and not really clear or accepted.

Like in Phoenix Resurrection, the Phoenix force has captured and mindwiped Jean grey in Arizona. Has she tries to regain her memories, a manifestation of that memory appears in the location it appeared in the real world (Jamaica Bay, the moon, the North pole, a monastery in France, her childhood home).

The manifestations happen at different locations of the world at the same time and are strong enough to fight teams of Xmen sent to investigate. By #4 of the miniseries, adult beast and teen beast theorize that the manifestations are created by Jean as a cry for help as she subconsciously fights the Phoenix. The feat is not accepted by some because they feel it was the Phoenix luring the Xmen to find Jean (except the book shows the Phoenix trying to mind control the Xmen to leave Jean alone, and sending an army of dead Xmen to keep them away). So nebulous and unaccepted feat

The second one is from Xmen red #1,Jean is watching the news and seeing the way mutants are being treated and it worries her because the world is different from when she died. She says she needs a different perspective and flies up into the atmosphere to use her telepathy. Below her is a city and she says that she has never felt the world so angry before but she'll find a way to help heal the world. So, it could be a planetary feat of Jean reading the minds on the planet and feeling their emotions or as some argue, she could just be reading the minds of the city shown in the background when she was flying (nevermind that on panel she states that she's feeling the "world" being angry).

Nevermind that she already had planetary feats before. But even if we add all this, it wouldn't be enough for her to beat Manhunter.

pre-52 MM could win without the Fernus form since he's dealt with great threats and has crazy feats, but he's been mind controlled/telepathically attacked a few times before.

What are New 52 Manhunters feats? I don't see him mentioned much by people

Plus she's beaten planetary level Telepaths (Phoenix Emma frost and Gamemaster).

Rebirth Martian Manhunter was absent until he appeared in Dark Knight's Metal. New 52 MM has beaten Despero, but since new 52 characters have been nerfed in a sense, it's debatable on whether these two characters are at the same levels as Post crisis.

There's another feat where Groot has her scan everyone on the planet to find a girl he rescued years ago. She had to take groots memory of the girl and scan everyone to see who had that memory too. And in Xmen Dark Sun she was in contact with different Xmen around the world

@del_torro: I find the Phoenix Resurrection feat to be legitimately all Jean. Had it been the Phoenix, it would’ve led them a long time ago. It doesn’t need to go through such cryptic messages to look for a fight. Meanwhile, if Jean is crying for help subconsciously, then it would make sense that she barely have any capability to produce such feats because she is fighting the influence.

X-Men: Red is also planetary level. Even if she didn’t do it at that moment, she eventually scanned the planet for the greatest minds in one go if her clothes are in all the panels are any indication. Looking up this generations greatest minds isn’t something she could look up on the internet And find in a single day. It’s also not like she used Cerebro because she traveled to each location to get them to meet in Wakanda, again in one go. She can’t do that from Cerebro, otherwise she could’ve simply used her New X-Men feat where she made a psychic conference room.

The doubters have right to be suspicious but the feats are as clear and simple on the page.

@del_torro: I think normal Emma is planetary level. She’s been called a world class telepath before and she also affected someones mind to talk to wolverine while wolverine was on the other side of the world.

But anyways, I’ve always got the impression that most of the dc telepaths were more powerful while marvel telepaths had more versatility with how they use their telepathy. I’m gonna go with Martian man hunter.

@ElPendejo: yeah, Emma has broadcasted messages to the world before different times, and she's beaten Rachel (Rachel was reading and classifying every mind on earth when trying to find the hellfire club). She's also beaten a hive mind of skills that had the powers of Xavier, Jean and Emma,beaten 1000 Cuckoos (clones of herself), and taken out hundreds of mister sinister clones.

On a base level, Emma is planetary (which is why Jean beating Phoenix Emma in endsong, and Jeans ghost suppressing Emma in Jean grey series is so impressive)

•There’s also this Jessica Jones scan where Jean installs mental blocks in her head. I think they were on opposite sides of the country at this time, though Jean could have also been in Tokyo. Either way, Jessica was in Los Angeles if I’m not correct and Jean was nowhere near Jessica’s area.

The hellfire club (where Jean was made the black queen), the North pole (where Jean took wolverine to kill her in Endsong) and a Monastery in France (where Xmen fought the acolytes, and Jean fought and tk blasted Mellencamp over 300 miles away).

After that, Cable tracks down the psychic manifestations (which she confirmed by Rachel to be memories), and finds more locations around the world where there have been psychic manifestations before. At one of them, a manifestation of magneto appeared to fight the Xmen (obviously a memory from Jean, because magneto has been a good guy for a long time now, but Jean wouldn't know because he was a villain when she was still alive).

So that's a mind wiped Jean grey,subconsciously making psychic manifestations of her memory on the moon, new York, the North pole, Antarctica, and the Indian Ocean, all the way from Arizona where the Phoenix trapped her.

Also, her psychic manifestations/energy cause psychic trauma to Rachel grey and Cable when they come in contact with it (two omega level telepaths)

Notice how Rachel and some of Jeans projections say "daed ffo retteb", (better off dead), which is what Jean tells shot after the Phoenix brings him back, "we were better off dead".

Some have argued that the manifestations were made by the Phoenix to lure the Xmen in, but why would the Phoenix do that, then try to chase the Xmen a way when they got to Arizona? Or try to kill them by sending a army of dead Xmen to keep them from reaching Jean?

Why would the manifestations say things that Jean is saying or thinking? Why would manifestations of Jeans memories appear when she is recalling her memory's? All logic points that it was all done by Jean and not the Phoenix.

Jean thought Emma had died, but she was shown to be alive later. In new Xmen 131, Emma told Scott that Jean erased half of her brain and left drooling and incontinent for a month.
