So since everyone seems to be doing it, why should I be left behind? Cue self wanking party...

The basics first...

Characters and Verses that I am familiar with (which I have repped)

  • One Piece
  • Toriko
  • Blade
  • Luther Strode
  • Guts
  • Mangog
  • Dark Schneider
  • Larfleeze
  • Rick Sanchez
  • And of course, who can forget, Samurai Jack where it all began.

Characters and Verses that I plan on repping in the future

GoH verse

Plutonian

Midnighter

Superboy Prime

Starbreaker (actually I have a current CaV with him though it hasn't started yet)

Swamp Thing (I really really want to do a CaV with this guy in the near future)

So as you can see I have a decently vast repertoire of characters from various mediums, and across all tiers. The one conspicuous absence is Live Action but I am as big a fan of CBM's as the next guy, its only that Live Action debates involve a lot of GiF's which I haven't figured out how to manage efficiently yet.

Moving on, let's come to the meat, my actual debates, of which there are quite a few.

Standalone CaV's

Blade (Shirso) vs Buffy (SFW)

An oft debated matchup which happened to also be my first ever CaV, that too against a HoF'er. The results were not definite (though I was winning :P) but a solid debate nevertheless.

Monster Trio (Shirso) vs Kakashi (Cosmic Lantern)

The first in a pair of debates where I represented the M3 against two quite different opponents. This was against a Kakashi with intangibility and offensive Kamui turned off and being repped by the legendary CL, bless his heart. One of my first solid victories.

Monster Trio (Shirso) vs Meliodas (HTA)

The second in the series, this time against a physical powerhouse, and better still, Meliodas wasn't nerfed in anyway. I was also up against HTA, a solid manga debater, and though there aren't enough votes for a decisive winner, I was in the lead and seemed to have changed quite a few minds wrt this matchup. This debate is especially memorable because of the way HTA made me stretch my limits, especially regarding speed.

Midora and Acacia (Shirso) vs Adam Warlock and Genis Vell (Jardinain)

A teambuster tier debate, with me repping the top dogs of Toriko against a pair of cosmic powerhouses. We all know how lethal Jards can be with Genis Vell. Well, as I have said before, this one was the definition of a hax off, with Jards throwing everything, from time stop to going back in time kill you as a baby, to instant soul crush to atomic disintegration and many many more at me. But I could actually provide valid counters for all the Genis hax, and throw some nasty offense of my own, to the point that Jards implicitly conceded. I gurantee this debate would make you look at Toriko top tiers in a whole new way.

Super Perfect Cell and H'el (TMWQ) vs Silver Surfer (Shirso)

First things first, I don't claim to be as much of a Surfer expert as folks like Majinblackheart for example. Even so, I think my only CaV where I actually "one shotted" deserves a mention.

And now for the L's...

Spiderman (Watcher) vs Guts (Shirso)

Even though this was an obviously uphill match for the godfather of Dark Souls, I still wanted to do it because of how much I love the character. And the voting was pretty close initially actually, till those damn Spidey fanboys came along :P

Still, a very entertaining and informative debate overall and one to check out if you want to know more about Guts, or also Spiderman for that matter.

Thanos (Apex_Predator) vs Mangog (Shirso)

Technically this was a Tourney match, but that Tourney never went beyond the 1st round so wth. Agree with Apex though, this was a mighty fun CaV, which has become surprisingly relevant in current times.

Madara (God_Vulcan) vs 3 Admirals (Shirso)

Another uphill struggle in retrospect which I took because of the sheer entertainment value. Got my ass handed in the process but if you want to see a quintessential Goliath vs David (or in this case 3 David's) matchup which doesn't seem hilariously one sided, you are at the right place.

Luther Strode (Shirso) vs YJ Superboy (King Hellstrom)

Short. Sweet. Brutal. That's what this man to man street level brawl was all about. Highly recommended if you want your CaV's to read like a fast paced, preferably R-rated, action thriller.

Unfinished

Dormammu (Laylah) vs Dark Schneider (Shirso)

My only universal tier debate. Full of sweet knowledge bombs and a lot lot more.

Tourney Matches

Before going into specific matches, let me first state my tourney record. I have reached the finals several times in SFW's Street PYP.

I was in an interesting final against Arkbound, which unfortunately never quite finished (though we are both planning to revive it soon :P).

Apart from that, I am currently in the finals of ET's 2017 High Tier Tourney 2nd Edition, going up against Apex_Predator and Majin Blackheart, both strong candidates for this year's HoF.

This tourney marked the first time that anybody on the Vine ever used a character like Rick Sanchez in a CaV, that too in a highly competitive tourney such as this one. Not to brag, but I have made it to the finals with a team built entirely around Rick Sanchez's prep without resorting to his time stop device that is always brought up in threads involving him.

How you ask?

The following CaV answers all your questions:

Shirso vs Deathhero61 (High Tier PyP Semis)

A very controversial debate and one I can't be entirely proud of. Still it shows ways to design a prep build without going the typical Zetsumoto route. In fact a variant of Zetsumoto's Magik centered build was used against me in the match. But as you'd no doubt see, science conquers all !

Now I am not very active in normal threads, because I always seem to find my groove better in CaV's. Butthat doesn't mean I haven't contributed to the general debating culture around here. I believe I have made quite a few number of innovative battle threads that break away from typical convention, be it in characters used or format.

Here are a few of my personal favorites, each one is a must read in their own right I assure you:

Weakest Character that can oneshot the Hulk?

Thanos vs Midora

Spiderman vs A man with a flashlight

Thanos vs Ultra Hax Mid Tiers (this one's new but already shows potential with plenty of good arguments cropping up from both sides)

Who from Marvel can beat HP Doomsday in a physical slugfest?

Hulk Optimization Gauntlet (the response was kinda lukewarm though).

Can Thanos clear Countdown to Final Crisis?

Can Darkseid clear Infinity Quest?

And yeah I also once hosted a tourney,

The Teambusters/Crack Squads Tourney. It started off with a bang but then sorta fizzled out, but still not half bad for my first stint as host.

So why should you vote for me?

Because I am knowledgeable on a wide variety of characters, make or at least try to make innovative battles and tourneys, and am not a half bad debater to boot.

Thanks in advance folks !

My votes go without a doubt to:

@thedailybagel - excellent Hulk debater. Constantly respectful, and has damn near encyclopedic knowledge on Hulk

@chimeroid - duh

@thor_parker82 - Pretty much one of the few respectable Thor debaters, second to only maybe HTTK. One thing he does that I like, and attempt to emulate is citing all of his scan numbers. However his apostrophes annoy the hell of me.

@justicethorpsylocke - duh

And I’ll save my last vote

Smart idea to reserve that space earlier, that front page real estate is hard to get! Thanks again, I appreciate the in-depth comments.

I'll cast my votes I suppose

  1. @owie deserves a spot here, and I missed getting a vote in for him last time. Incredibly knowledgeable and polite. Has made some respectable contributions to the vine, he for sure deserves to be inducted
  2. @DedmanWalkin is a phenomenal debater. For those of you that have never witnessed him in action.....sheer genius. The man does not even need scans to be an astronomical debater, which is rare. Can pick apart a statement like no other, and is always spot on with facts and knowledge. It's surprising has not made it in before now.
  3. @mr_ingenuity someone I've see and learned from since I started on the vine. He's HOF material all day. Another vet that deserves to be inducted.
  4. @thedailybagel an "up and coming" debater that has truly earned my respect and awe at the same time. Incredibly knowledgeable and aesthetically sound when it comes to his debates. Has earned the right to be in the HOF, without a doubt IMO
  5. @thenewbluebeetle007 another "younger" user (because I'm old) that has impressed the hell outta me. Not as active as once was, but through his matches and posts....absolutely deserves to be in the HOF.

and those are my votes for this year. I apologize for the short descriptions, typing this post in a hurry.

and Honerable mention goes to @chimeroid. Would have gotten my vot eif I could cast another. Fantastic debater and will be in the HOF shortly if not this year. Rememmber when we had the pleasure of debating good sir? I can't remember the outcome, or find the link in my files, but it was fun as all get out if memory serves me correct.

Friends! Romans! Viners! Welcome to the annual voting round for the 2018 Olympics Debater’s Hall of Fame. Many of you know who I am. Many of you I have had the pleasure of participating in roleplaying tournament both with and against, and others I’ve had the pleasure of debating against in CaV’s. Many of you feel that I have deserved this spot for some time now, and I feel the same. That is not to say, that others are not undeserving of such a title. In their own way, I’m sure they have presented qualities that have not gone unnoticed. But it is to say, that I feel as if this has been a long time coming. For various reasons, either medical or personal or academic, I have not tried very hard in previous seasons to advertise myself as a worthy Hall of Famer. That changes today.

Make no mistake, these last many years on the Vine has meant a great deal to me. In times of high-end social anxiety in the forgettable but fundamental years of high school, Comic Vine has been an outlet. In the years of lonely New Hampshire summers, there was Comic Vine. In grim days of unfathomable health conditions, Comic Vine was there to ease the burden. So, I go forth, ready to advertise away, with the understanding Comic Vine does mean much to me. But, whether it be a flaw or a quality, I embrace it with pride this day.

My Top Five Debates

1. BATTLE OF THE WEEK---Erik's Battle Scenario: Capes (Final Round, Page 82 Post #4079) - Honestly, this may be my proudest moment on Comic Vine. There were many hardcore creative scenarios brought to us by @erik_soong. While harsh and aggressive words were exchanged and hours upon hours fueled typing, rigorous fingers, the sheer thrill and challenge of what he brought to the table in his scenarios was truly the stuff of legends. I, myself, have a good many memories. From killing hundreds if not thousands of orcs by blowing up the top of a mountain, to intense grudge matches between my Deathstroke/Boba Fett hybrid and @ferro_vida's powerful Samus Aran powerhouse, to even going as far as faking my own death to save my weakened self from the clutches of @lunacyde. Mere words can not express the colorful gauntlet that each of us had to counter and the ferocity of the debates they brought forth. But, the final complete round was one that is surely unforgettable to me. Though the teams were equally numbered, their team expressed a great deal of power that had to be overcome. One nigh-limit-breaking powerhouse who wore a darkened version of the Samus Aran armor, a Captain America-esque super soldier wielding Mjolnir armor, a squad of teleporters, and a team member who can completely surround our team in utter blackness that'd render even the most enhanced individual's eyesight useless. Nevertheless, after hours of calculating, before they had brought up the strategy, I predicted their strategy to nearly an exacttee. As I said back then,

Wow. I cannot tell you how happy I am. Because I sincerely kid you not, I anticipated all of this to near perfection. To Jack blinding our team to even the way you separated your teams and how you'll use them. And as it happens, I designed a plan for exactly this scenario. Congratulations. You've played right into our hands. Brace yourselves.

Highly recommend reading Post #4104 for full detail on my prediction. The debate lasts about three pages from Page 82-85, in case anyone would like to skim through it. In the end, our team lost. Debating mistakes were made and their were a couple of rules that our team were not aware of at the time. Even still, I was very proud of myself for making the rare occurrence of predicting the enemy's strategy so accurately. After it all, I was honored by Erik's comment in his deciding judgement on the battle:

I will however say that Fetts very easily gets MVP of this match. He carried his entire team for just about the entire debate and he fought hard. His team might have lost, but Fetts certainly didn't, as far as I am concerned.

2. CaV: Deathstroke (Fetts) vs. Vamp (nickzambuto) - Picking out of all of my most noted debates was a very hard decision, but I think this one certainly deserves the second piece of the cake. Even though, by no means, I debated without the certain standard of finesse I hold myself to, this is where I feel where my debating skills were birthed and where they shined for the first time. Back in the day, @nickzambuto and I had quite the rivalry. We butted heads against each other through several CaV's and tournament matches, and I think it's safe to say that through it all we gained a respect for one another. And, admittedly, he had the upper hand throughout most of this entire match. Nevertheless, in my final post, I decided to buckle down and force myself to go Super Saiyan 2. With a raged determination that I still remember to this day, I researched long and hard, made calculations, and studied scans to the best of my abilities. Even in the end, the voting phase was extremely close and tense, but I won by a landslide single vote.

@jashro44

I think fetts had the better argument due to his last response. All though it was a good debate.

3. Esquire's Tournament (Semifinals): CadenceV2 vs. Fetts - This, likewise, was very hard to rank. But I remember it being talked about by others, and given the circumstances of the match I do believe it was something to talk about :). Essentially, the match came to this: my team consisted of Boba Fett and Pre-52/New-52Deathstroke (my two favorite characters), who had their standard equipment, EMP grenades, full knowledge, and forty-five minutes of prep. CadenceV2 had a much more menacing team with numbers and quality troops to boot. In his team, he played Captain Titus (40k) with a carbonadium upgrade, Roland Deschain with a vibranium suit and explosive rounds, and five cape-killer S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Despite the overwhelming odds, I was able to utilize my prep time sufficiently by creating a forest fire and a circle "moat" that'd deem my characters safe, was able to provide revolutionary discoveries to Deathstroke's physical stats (enhanced even further by Nth Metal) to combat Captain Titus, use Boba's vision modes and other detection methods, take advantage of his split numbers, and point out his flaw for thinking he had cape killer agents instead of regular agents. Against all odds and everybody's expectations, I was able to pull out a victory.

4. Esquire's Tournament (Finals): Sovereign91001 vs. Fetts - Many a time, back in those days, I could get very salty losing a match after I put so much time and effort into it. Nevertheless, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I felt as if it was an honor to lose against Sovereign91001. Never before had I made it the final round of a tournament, and when it finally came to it, I met my Payton Manning to my Tom Brady. Not only did I feel so evenly matched by Sovereign, but afterwards I could tell he was an honorable, respectful, hardworking, and intelligent debater. And to top it off, it was Spider-Man and Wolverine vs. Boba Fett and Deathstroke! Who wouldn't pay to see that grudge match? In the end, we agreed that either of us could have won. Both of us were pretty evenly matched in characters, both of us had perks that were advantageous, both of us had equipment that was advantageous. I encourage anyone to skim through the match themselves to see how evenly drawer we were. And, even though I lost, I believe it was evident that I put up a helluva fight. Nevertheless, despite our even ground, he did certainly deserve the win.

5. CaV: Boba/Jango (Fetts) vs. Smiley/Broken Tusk (jwalser3) - Truthfully, the fifth one is a very hard one to choose because I feel as if any one of the debates in any of Dane's, Erik's, or Lunacyde's role-playing scenario tournaments could easily take the mark. But honestly, all of those were so incredibly close in terms of quality and it'd take days that I don't have to truly decide which one was marginally best. So, I opted for a different approach and chose another CaV. This one, as memory serves, was also one of the most evenly matched debates I've had. Though I've had better rivalries, Boba Fett vs. Predator used to be one of the most debated "Boba Fett" or "Predator" theoretical match-ups online if memory serves. Both of the Predators, especially in the comics, have a good many high-end feats that'd make the likes of Captain America sweat. To prove that the Mandalorians were more than a match for the alien machines of hunting, it required a very technical and analytical approach to educate both my viewers and my opponent. And, that is not the say, that he wasn't very educational himself. In the end, it was neck and neck, but I clutched the victory by a single vote.

@higorm

  • fetts - Now here's another dude who should already be a HOFamer, especially if you take into consideration his accomplishments. Beyond the whole "must have" package of a true HOF member, this guys was one of the Star Wars "experts" with extensive knowledge on Boba Fett, he is one of the responsible for giving this character the respect he deserves which lead us to see him as a true badass. Aside from that, fetts was really good in scenario threads, he even won one of the most disputed of all, thanks to his knowledge and strategic prowess.
