It would take more strength to pull a tree out of it's roots or and even more strength than that to physically push it in half.

Strength increases with speed. Wally West is the best example of this. If Edward goes as fast as he can and hits Thor, his punches will amplify in power.

Edward can push a tree over standing still. If he runs and punches Thor as hard as he can he will probably one shot him.

Also the vampires in Twilight are as hard as Diamond, which can only be damaged from other Diamonds.
