The Great Uniter, Kuvira (The Legend of Korra, Ruins of the Empire III)
The Great Uniter, Kuvira (The Legend of Korra, Ruins of the Empire III)
  1. The first round will take place outside of Zaofu. Kuvira will be equipped with two cable spools on her waist belt alongside her regular combat attire. The starting distance is twenty feet. For all three rounds, both of them will be acting in character, but fully determined to bring the other down by any means necessary. Both benders have basic knowledge on one another.
  2. The second round will take place inside Zaofu, by Suyin's meteorite collection. Yun will be assissted by five White Lotus sentries from Air Temple Island -- three waterbenders and two metalbenders -- while Kuvira will be assissted by three fully equipped Earth Empire soldiers of the highest rank. The starting distance is thirty feet.
  3. The third and final round will be a one on one duel in the Beifong Estate;

Kuvira will begin on the metal panels by the bridge, while Yun will start on the solid ground fifty feet away.

When the Great Uniter takes on the False Avatar, who will be victorious?

R1. Kuvira would get wrecked. She doesn't have enough metal to contend against Yun, and her pure earth feats are leagues below his. Although by writers statement she should be capable of giving him a good fight, her feats don't support this

R2. Closer due to more metal around, but I'd still back Yun. Kuviras EE soldiers don't make much difference even though they'd beat the WL pretty solidly

R3. Closest round yet, but I'll still give it to Yun. He's too high scale for her, whereas Kuvira is more of a close range CQC fighter. Although with the amount of metal present she can challenge him, but his environmental control is too great and feats against Father Glowworm and Flying Opera Company show he'd just be too much for her.

I would side with Yun, but with varying (possibly increasing) difficulty each round.

Yun takes it every round comfortably.

Kuvira would only be delaying the inevitable.

The False Avatar vs The Earth Emperor

Biography

Yun was born 15 score and 12 years prior to the genocide of the Air Nomads by Firelord Sozin. He was raised in the Earth Nation and, fourteen years after his accouchement, was in Makapu Village, where the old friends of Avatar Kuruk, "Gravedigger" Jianzhu and "The Living Typhoon" Kelsang, found him playing expertly at Pai Sho. Realizing that Yun had precocious, prodigious talent at the game, the men took Yun in, believing him to be the new Avatar. Jianzhu trained Yun in earthbending to the highest level possible, and by the time of the events chronicled in The Rise of Kyoshi, Yun was among the greatest earthbenders of his generation. He was educated in assassination, traditional bending techniques and the art of firebending by the Headmistress of the Fire Nation Academy, Hei-Ran. Yun's first major assignment as the Avatar was to negotiate diplomacy with the waterbending Pirate Queen, Tagaka. After she ambushed him, Yun nearly died, but was saved by his old friend, Kyoshi. Jianzhu took Yun and Kyoshi to a spirit named Glowworm who revealed that Kyoshi was the true Avatar, and so Yun was left to fend off the spirit while Jianzhu saved Kyoshi. Yun fought the spirit for many days in the Spirit World and eventually defeated Glowworm. Yun fused with the spirit, gaining the ability to track the Avatar wherever she went, which he used to terrorize her and eventually fight her. She defeated him by freezing the water around his heart, killing him.

Kuvira was left by her parents at the age of eight due to the trouble she caused them. Suyin Beifong adopted Kuvira and taught her all that she knew about earthbending and metalbending, which Suyin's mother, Toph Beifong, discovered. Kuvira was treated as Suyin's own, and eventually, she became the security captain of Zaofu. This was tested after the Harmonic Convergence 10,000 years after the fusion of Raava and Wan, which created airbenders around the globe. The Red Lotus leader Zaheer, who gained airbending abilities, escaped from his prison, broke his fellow Red Lotus criminals Ghazan, Ming Hua and P'li out of their prisons, and sought after the Avatar, Korra. Korra, being stationed in Zaofu while training Opal Beifong, was nearly taken by the Red Lotus, but due to the help of many people other than Kuvira, the Red Lotus was stopped. Kuvira helped Suyin throughout the efforts to stop the Red Lotus, but they assassinated the Earth Queen, and due to the death of the Earth Kingdom's head and the chaos it caused in Ba Sing Se, Kuvira stepped forth to take the Kingdom back. In doing so, she began to rule over the Earth Kingdom, militarily threatening dissidents of her regime. She used the genius of Varrick to develop a weapon of mass destruction from spirit energy while others in her army built a brobdingnagian robot to support the weapon. She attacked Republic City but was stopped by Avatar Korra and held in trial for her crimes.

Combat

Yun is a master combatant thanks to his peerless training. We see great record of this in his duel with Father Glowworm.

No Caption Provided

Yun fought the powerful spirit for apparently many days and nights, and won the conflict with the supernatural being thanks to his unnatural talent with the art of earthbending and his indescribably tough physical body. His bending on its own is masterful; on one occasion, he localized a seismological event he created in the midst of combat against the Avatar and the daughter of Hei Ran.

And his earthbending strength directly surpassed that of Avatar Kyoshi, who was so powerful that bending buildings came as effortlessly to her as bending pebbles is to any normal earthbender.

Kuvira, being born in the age of metalbending and rapid bending, is a master of the arts.

We see here the incredible speed and power of Kuvira. Two earthbenders work together to throw a boulder at her. Before the rock reaches her, Kuvira has to process that she has to look in that direction, physically move her eyes in that direction, process the boulder coming at her, process that she has to do something to defend herself, move her head, torso and arms in a turning position to face in that direction, throw her arms above her head, spin them in front of her, process that she has to bend, bend metal strips out of her armor, send them precisely into the boulder, process that the strips have landed in the boulder, process that she has to do something about it, move her arms in opposite directions along the x-asis and focus the power of said movement into bending the metal strips to split the boulder in half. Truly a masterclass of bending speed and power right here.

And as a duelist, Kuvira is well known for her performance against Toph's daughter, Suyin Beifong.

Suyin jumps from behind Kuvira but Kuvira senses it and leaps away from her thrown boulder. She lands on her wrists with her armored-adult bodyweight but doesn't break them by expertly flipping and spinning around in her position to face Suyin, backing up to prepare for the incoming duel. She deflects multiple metal projectiles by extending individual limbs in separate instances and sending them away from her by making physical contact with them, then performs the incredible feat of acknowledging the presence of tools to use around her and utilizing spare metal lying around as sharp, speedy steep strips as a form of offense. Even though Suyin blocks the metal strips with metal, she has to spin the metal at high speeds to do so, and even then, Kuvira's strips are implanted inside the metal shield, a testament to Kuvira's incredible power. Suyin leaps over Kuvira with a bending-amplified jump but Kuvira, showing masterful dexterity and reflexes, follows Suyin's path and blocks and dodges projectiles sent at her, using her expert combat-copying skill to recognize Suyin's unique projectile-throwing style and replicate it perfectly, bending high-velocity metal projectiles at her in return. While it didn't work, this is due to Suyin wearing armor that deflected the metal; if she wasn't wearing metal, clearly Suyin would have done the exact same move that she did with the metal on and been killed then and there by Kuvira. When Suyin attempts to attack Kuvira from behind, Kuvira has to use her lightning-fast reflexes to process that Suyin is in front of her, process that Suyin is making a move, ponder what the move means, intelligently come to the conclusion that she is bending, wonder where the bending is coming from, process that she needs to look around to find out, looks behind her, sees a piece of metal begin to move, process that it is moving, recognize that it is metal, remember that Suyin is bending, ponder the given evidence, conclude that Suyin must be metalbending a piece of metal in combat, and move her head, torso and legs in such a way to intercept the large metal cart, then take hold of it by metalbending and throw it away, creating a large dust cloud and shockwave. Kuvira then has to remember she is in a fight, process she has to continue fighting, turns around, sees a piece of metal flying at her, process that a piece of metal is flying at her and physically move her body to dodge it. Another piece of metal comes flying, but thanks to her incredible durable metal armor, Kuvira is unaffected by the metal, which is also a showing of strength since her arm didn't move against the force of moving metal. Kuvira bends the metal on her armor to become a sword and uses the environment to her advantage, bending the metal beneath her to enhance her already formidable physical capabilities and leap at Suyin, taking the fight to close quarters and attempting to stab Suyin with her sharp steel blade. When Suyin dodges, Kuvira keeps the pressure on her by continuously slashing at her, and when Suyin attempts to throw her off of the platform they are fighting on, Kuvira catches herself with the extended reach of her weapon and swings back into Suyin, kicking her away and tearing tiny chunks off of her steel armor while sending metal strips in the midst of Suyin's rolling. Kuvira transforms her steel weapon into a flexible cable to wrap around Suyin's wrist faster than she can react and whips her around with it, then uses the environment twice to throw Suyin around like a helpless ragdoll, eventually sending her flying off of the metal platform they fought on. Kuvira then has to process that Suyin is off of the platform and physically relax, another incredible speed feat.

Conclusion

While it is clear that Kuvira is a master metalbender with incredible speed, she's also trash, and is not beating Yun.

Anyways,I've decided to argue for Kuvira in the last round

She's similarly skilled with extreme amounts of finesse in her element and considering its abundance Yun would have to be on his absolute A Game. Both are skilled in rapidly changing the properties of their element( Kuvira transitioning from swords to whips fast enough to catch Suyin off guard, Yun's usage of quicksand)

Kuvira may also prove fast enough to take Yun off guard, especially if he attempts to close the distance and attack her like when he stabbed Rangi. Basically the closer Yun gets to Kuvira, the more likely her chances of winning.

Yun has extraordinary endurance from his battle against Glowworm, however if Kuvira tags him once she's free to have her way with him. Plus the potency of her large scale metal attacks against Korra in the finale tell me she could do some real harm to Yun.

Considering the amount of metal in the area she could also just encase him in a metal prison, similar to what she uses against Mako and Bolin in the comics. And the properties of the metal in the area mean she can defend from a large majority of his attacks.

The metal pathways also negate a lot of Yun's normal environmental manipulation that would usually have pressed Kuvira due to her lack of earth bending feats.

It would be a very good fight though, but I'll back Kuvira.

Yun all rounds, though R3 would be close with the sheer amount of Metal. (far closer than R1 at least)

1. The only thing Kuvira has over Yun is that she can metalbend. She could try to use this skill to trap Yun. Throw a metal sheet over his eyes or on one of his limbs and take control of the fight from there. But this advantage is slightly lost since Yun will have basic knowledge on her bending abilities. This strategy would also be difficult to execute considering Yun is at least as fast, or faster, than her. And between his earth skating, mudspouts, and diving underground, he's not exactly going to be standing idle waiting to block or dodge her attacks. He'll force her on the defensive side, and Kuvira won't be handling liquified earth or contending with Yun's power for long.

2. I don't think the helpers on either side will have too much of an impact on the real fight. The Earth Empire soldiers will most likely win; maybe with one solider left standing, but by the time they are finished their battle, Kuvira and Yun's should be near over lol. As for Yun and Kuvira, it's similar as before. The meteorites are nice, but Yun can basically make his own. Turning ink into a glove that can stop blades, stone into liquid, paint into deadly ammo, etc. He's a more creative and tougher bender.

3. The more metal is definitely helpful, but Kuvira doesn't exactly use it in large scale ways. It will keep her in the fight longer, as it limits Yun on some of his abilities like tunneling (at least under the metal sections). I can see Kuvira taking some rounds if she finds a way to incapacitate him.

Yun is not someone Kuvira is reliably taking for a majority. He wins all rounds with varying degrees of difficulty, round 3 being the closest.
