Both in prime using full range of abilities. Begin.
Dante vs. Sephiroth
When Sephiroth is goofing around and playing with his friends...he throws people several dozen meters with a single shot, and cuts through several feet of steel effortlessly.
Sephiroth has never shown any signs of strain, or exhaustion. He has never been shown to give off so much as a bead of sweat, or blink. A semi-serious Sephiroth attacked Elfe, and blocking his attack was enough to shatter the concrete and steel beneath her feet, and scare her enough to run away...someone who literally held the power of a god within her body.

Sephiroth is the guy who casually carves up skyscrapers like sticks of butter. But with royal guard, Dante could withstand any physical attack Seph has got. And Quicksilver + DT could help as well. So in conclusion, idk.
@Jonny_Anonymous:
It depends on whether you use his confirmed list of Materia or what he could possibly acquire.
I feel that different styles, the multitude of weapons and Devil Trigger sway for Dante over the confirmed list, of course this is ignoring Black Materia as that would be ridiculous.

OP says full range and at the end of Advent Children Seph basically absorbed the power of all the materia

Well that makes this a really unfair match-up then.
this could be a pretty even battle but the OP needs to edit
Damn this hard to say. I'm routin' for Dante though because I know more about him and he a cool ass character. But I don't know who'll win because I know Seph' a beast too.
Doesn't Dante have time manipulation?
If he can pull that off, it's a quick win for him.
So does Sephiroth.

But Dante is also much stronger faster skillful agile durable smarter and better looking so he wins anyway.

I'm not sure about most of that, but you say Dante is better looking than, if not the, one of most glorious men in fiction?
Top that ;P
im going with dante... but if you can prove me wrong please do so
just can't
dante wins

He looks like a little girl wearing a wig.
Dante's got the face AND the bod.
He's much more distinguished than Sephiroth.
Sorry but this clearly isn't even close, gg
It's just... Ugh.
A sixteen year old teen with a short hair emo haircut, has alot of sex, and looks like a fag. Seriously.
He once had a white wig fall on to his hair (he litteraly looked like the old one) and said: "Not in a million years" then throws it away. That's a big slap in the face to the fans.
So, here ya go.

DmC's sales were a bigger slap in the face of Ninja Theory

Even by FF7's graphical standards, Sephiroth's body is comparable to Dante's, and we have a replica statue of it ;P
Heck, we don't even need to consider Sephiroth's superior physique, his voice alone is enough:
@parryboy: I agree completely, Btw. I flinched when Dante Cullen said that about the mop/wig. There was nothing that game could do after that to make things right again. It hurt my feelings.
@pope052: < Implying Dante doesn't have one of the most charismatic voices around.
Dante also has a cooler name. Sephiroth isn't even a name... It's a sound.
@neongamewave: Dante.
Many seem to forget that Dante fought and beat a Sephiroth in DMC 1 his name was Mundus.
.
.
What? Like Ik who Mundus is, and Ik who Sephiroth is....but what? Mundus was an interdimentional demon-king who was beat by a weapon made to kill demons, Sephiroth is a psychic shapeshifting alien/human/planet hybrid who was beat by an alien/human hybrid (Cloud) with the help of an entire planet (Holy, triggered by Aerith). They are very different things...Mundus effected an island, while Sephiroth almost singlehandedly destroyed the world.
The context of what I was indicating is very important. The comparison I was making was that Dante has already come across and defeated a Sephiroth level character which in his case is Mundus, also Dante`s weapons have and are meant to harm beings that are magical in nature which Sephiroth also is... Also his weapons destroy souls, purge them and absorb them while they simultaneously nullify dark energy another thing is Cloud`s weapons alone are perfectly able to prove that fact as they act as a challenge to Sephiroth and he`s nowhere in Dante`s ballpark to be found when it comes to just possessing pure godlike power.

Dante's voice isn't nearly as compelling, and Sephiroth is at least a unique name, I don't see any spark behind the name "Dante" ;P
@neongamewave: Sephiroth was toying with Cloud in Advent Children... He never took the fight seriously, just watch the video, and it is fairly obvious. Cloud never stood a chance and was constantly being over-whelmed, Sephiroth stabbed him when he was done playing with him.
The thing about Sephiroth is he does not take anyone seriously (Never needed to, he is just that strong) and tends to play with them never going all out. If he had gone all out, Cloud would have died when Sephiroth stabbed him. Cloud didn't 'beat' Sephiroth so much as catch him by surprise which Dante could do as well.
Using ABC logic with Cloud doesn't really work...he struggles with Rude and Reno, then beats Diamond Weapon lol it was made pretty clear the entire game that Cloud is significantly weaker than Sephiroth, but he of all his crew was able to best him because he was connected to him. Sephiroth wouldn't treat Dante like Cloud, so that means no handicap, but also no mind control. Which is nice...
That said, Mundus was powerful, but he lacked the raw versatility that Sephiroth has, and concrete proof he was ascending to a planetary level. Now Dante and Sephiroth have a counter for basically everything the other can do with a few exceptions... Dante's Royal Guard is better than any defensive spell Sephiroth has, Sparda>Masamune, Sephiroth's regen is constant (when cast) and Sephiroth has 2 different ways to cast the spell Death. Or three, idr. IMO, no Dante but DMC 4 Dante even stands a chance, but at max power...honestly between magic, Jenova powers, Kingdom Hearts abilities, and absorbing the lifestream, Sephiroth outclasses Dante in versatility, which is his greatest strength. Not saying being able to stab hundreds of times in a direction isn't effective, but endlessly spamming a nova counter every couple seconds, casting lasting magic that stays in effect while attacking physically....its no contest. Sephiroth would lay it down harder than any boss Dante's ever faced. It's not a stomp, but I'd give Sephiroth 8/10
