In the antiquity - medieval times, China more or less dominated puny Japan, and heavily influenced Japan's writing system, architecture, culture, religion, philosophy, and law. It wasn't even remotely close, China >>>> Japan. Then white people showed up. Japan successfully reacted quick enough and repelled the Caucasian Virus from infecting their country, and even pulled a UNO-reverse card on the Portuguese by learning and mass producing European firearms and other weapons to use against them. While China was unable to stop the virus from coming in and basically they got colonized and Christianized like other Asian countries. Japan is now >>>> all other Asian countries at this point with upgraded tech and no white people. Moving on to WW2, Japan gets another major upgrade when it sides with Hitler, and being high on a power trip, goes straight for the now far inferior China and wrecks havock. After the nukes, Japan settled down, and China has time to finally catch up to Japan and as of today they are neck and neck. It's time for a rematch!
