1 day for proper technique could never beat Phelps in his prime.

batman level physical human capability is always > than real life olympic, martial arts champion level physical human capability

thats the point, he's supposed to be the peak of physical and mental human capability. he's a superhero for a reason, he's a comic book character for a reason

so yes he beats michael phelps, bruce lee, jon jones, muhammad ali etc.

and the fact that bruce gets prep is more devastating

People are forgetting the first rule of Batman: anything you can do, Batman can do Batmaner better. But seriously, he's as swimtatstic as any Olympic competitor according to every copyed-pasted entry.

If we were dealing with real-world Physics...Batman's muscle mass would slow him down quite considerably. Fortunately for Bruce...Batman has never been subjected to real world physics so he wins.

Batman in comics is suppose to have above Olympic athlete physique. In real life his muscles would slow him down too much, so his prep will help him figure a way around that. How? He's the goddamn Batman that's how.

Batman doesn't have the right build, he is too stocky and has too much muscle-mass... his muscles alone won't be able to power him through this race as fast as Phelps.... Phelps on the other hand has the perfect build and will probably win this race.

Since he's a comic character that can do things that have nothing to do with "real life", Batman wins. The guy can bench press 1,000 lbs and dodge bullets and wrestle multiple alligators in the water... who really thinks he couldnt out-swim a regular human?

Batman

physicality and enormous learning curve.

and would Bruce's build really slow him down that much? he doesn't look that muscular/heavy to me, and I've a few friends who are swimmers and they are pretty muscular, not as much as Bruce but still they pull off nice times. Or maybe it's just the way I look at the comic pages

Batman wear armor and suit to swim, so it slows him down.

Phelps takes this.

Well it's not Batman, it's Bruce, which implies no suit. But even if the OP said Batman, you'd think freakin Batman would be smart enough to take off the suit before a swimming contest, if needed.

Or, Batman deploys he Phelps-repellent spray and wins while Phelps swims around in a circle, dazed and confused.

According to the DC wiki Bruce Wayne is 6'2 and weighs about 210 lbs...Phelps is 6'4 and weighs in at 185-190.

@AngryHulks: actually if it was Batman, he would surely win. He would use an hydrodynamic advanced suit to help him.

Phelps in a stomp. Unless it's in a DC/Batman comic in that case Phelps nor god has any chance of beating him.

Well, you're really right! It doesn't take just physical condition to swim well, it takes really hard training. Even Bruce Wayne should'nt be able to learn how to swim faster in one day, what a talented guy takes a lifetime to.

You forget that Bruce had mastered every form of martial art, criminal psychology, forensics, computer design, engineering, acrobatics, sleight of hand, chemistry, biology, physics, criminal investigation, ventriloquism, marksmanship, etc...all by the time he was in his early twenties... he's managed to fit a dozen lifetimes of knowledge into less than a decade of study. It's impossible to compare real world peak humans to Bruce Wayne.

Phelps. The great thing about Bruce Wayne is that he's an Olympic-level athlete...but that doesn't mean he can beat EVERY athlete. He might be able to give them a run for their money, but it's highly unlikely he'll beat any specific athlete in a specific sport. He'd probably dominate the decathlon, though.

I don't forget that, but he doesn't swim very often, does he? Can you show me scans of him swimming? Well, for me, he's just an college-level swimmer.

Yes well...if you look at his feats he's well above Mike Phelps in terms of strength and speed.  You have to remember that Comic book peak human is miles above real world peak human.

I'm going to say what I always say in Comic book Vs Real life threads:

Comic book characters even those who are considered human can do things that are impossible for a real life human to accomplish. Peak human in comics would most likely be considered meta or superhuman in real life thus Batmam will win simply because by our standards he's beyond human in capabilities.

@Jorgevy: Muscle isn't a succeeding factor in swimming. Hence why the best swimmers are lean and perform better due to form, not strength.

Phelps has wingspan of 6 feet and 8 inches, it already gives him a massive advantage over Bruce.

Show me a scan where Batman moves faster in the water than Phelps without aid? The "Because it's comics he is better than real life peak human" argument is not cutting it.

I hate that "Olympic level physique" description, they're all different! A weightlifter is different from a cyclist is different from a table tennis player...... I think Batman would be most like a gymnast tbh, they're pretty solid

Fanboyism is the only reason anyone would say Batman here. Phelps curbstomps him, there is just no way Batman would be at his level after a single day of practice.

@Jorgevy: Wingspan is the length of your arms outspread fingertip to fingertip. If you measured yourself, your height should be equal to your wingspan but some people are different. Phelps is the best example of this.

Being a peak human doesn't mean sh*t in swimming if you're not constantly training in the pool.

I'm sure Batman has fantastic cardio and weight training workouts, but unless he's swimming Phelps' workout every day in the pool, he's going to embarrass himself.

Bruce has large shoulders. Too large to be naturally broad.

So my theory. He swims alot to stretch his muscles and get large shoulders.

Well one thing is for sure.
We have never seen batman swimming without his aqua suit on.
But with his aqua suit, he is capable of moving at speeds similar to Aqua man which is said to be about 60 mph normally and can go up to 150+.

The real question here is if Batman can run faster than Usaine Bolt especially if Batman is wearing his costume which would weigh him down.
