What are the wolves supposed to do? Break their teeth on the rhino's hide? Make him trip over their bodies? Maybe if there were like 100 they could dogpile him and suffocate him. But 20? Not enough.

Only two animals can kill an adult Rhino and thats Elephants & humans with a high powered rifle. Wolves would back away as none would get close as they're smart enough not to get killed.

rhino will maul every one of wolf, one hit from rhino will break wolf bones, and rhino probably throw wolf 20 feet high in air easily.

only win condition for wolves is by perfect teamwork induced attrition - wearing down the rhino into exhaustion and collapse, but that wont happen because wild animals cant think like humans

@thorwins1875: wolves do that all the time with prey, what. Not like it matters here, rhino will pick fight over flight against these weaklings who probably can't even bite through the rhinos skin. Wolves either run or be killed.

@_philosoraptor_: you're misconstruing my post - wolves are indeed opportunistic predators but they don't think like humans - wolves routinely test the waters with prey by taking any perceived opening to nip or bite - that's there downfall here, they would need to exhaust the rhino into collapse without ever truly getting close before going in to tear it apart - otherwise they would start losing numbers fast

as for rhino hide/skin - outside of humans lions are the only other known predator to kill rhinos, I was able to find scientific material of predation from sub-adult to even adult from 1 google search - they bring down rhinos by large pride number induced exhaustion and attacking their posterior

biteforce on wolves is almost 2.5x that of lions, and although claws can play a part, if a lion is capable piercing rhino hide with biteforce, wolves most certainly can

Rhino isn't thrashing anything. Wolves are too fast for the rhino to tag all 20, maybe it would beat 2 on 1 at best, so it's a stalemate because the wolves can just pussy out but the rhino can't be pierced by any wolves.
