Frank Miller Returns to Batman with DARK KNIGHT III: THE MASTER RACE

Frank Miller announced on Twitter he was returning to Batman. Set to conclude the Dark Knight Trilogy, fans can look forward to THE DARK KNIGHT III: THE MASTER RACE. More details were revealed on DCComics.com

DC Entertainment announced today that bestselling, iconic Batman writer and artist Frank Miller will write the epic conclusion of the celebrated THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS saga, including who would be working on the project with him.

The “THE DARK KNIGHT III: THE MASTER RACE” is the sequel to Miller’s 1986 classic THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS – heralded by TIME Magazine as one of the 10 greatest graphic novels of all time – and its 2001-2002 follow-up series BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT STRIKES AGAIN.

Miller will be joined by acclaimed writer Brian Azzarello (100 BULLETS, JOKER, and WONDER WOMAN) on the eight-issue comic book periodical, to be published twice a month under the DC Comics imprint. Marking the 30th anniversary of THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS original series, this periodical is slated for publication beginning in late Fall 2015.

“Batman remains my favorite comic book hero and a sequel to Dark Knight is going to be daunting," said Miller, "but we’ll do our best.”

“We are thrilled to have Frank back home at DC writing Batman,” according to Dan DiDio and Jim Lee, Co-Publishers for DC Entertainment. “The story he and Brian have crafted is an astounding and triumphant conclusion to this seminal body of work which influenced and shaped generations of readers and creators alike.”

According to Azzarello, “It's been an amazing experience collaborating with Frank these past six months. I think we have an epic story that these characters truly deserve.”

Artists for the project have yet to be announced.

I have the sinking feeling that "The Master Race" is being used without irony. Because really Frank Miller neo con loon maker of facist Batman is co-writting a title with clear links to Nazi ideology. O goody. Hopefull Azzerllo carries most of the weight.

I actually like Miller's stories because of how ridiculous they are. Naked Nazi ladies, prostitutes, swearing, brutal violence, and tons of awesome, raw batman action. Its a version of batman we rarely get to see.

Not having Miller on art duties is a good start, let's hope this steers closer to TDKR and less towards TDKSA.

This is going to be terrible.

Azz can do it, you guys! He'll reign Miller in and compensate for the areas that modern Miller needs to work on!

Hmmmmm. Dont know how I feel about this. If we are getting Year One an Returns Miller then count me in but im really not up for Strikes Again and All Star Miller.

With Azzarello's involvement there's some hope. Also I hope they get a good artist onboard.

Very excited for this (assuming it isn't like the 2nd Dark Knight returns), especially since Azzarello's now involved. The rustled Superman fans really need to cool it.

I KNOW RIGHT! People took "All Star Batman and Robin" too seriously, the book was meant to be over the top, and when you read it that way, its beyond fun and hilarious.

Looks like Batman's prays has been answered and Superman will bleed after all.

Poor Superman. They going to crap over him again. Azz wrote one of the worse SM stories in years SM For Tomorrow ans Miller wrote a government stooge and built Batman's greatness on SM's own golden age roots. They will ride the hype of BM v SM but undermine SM I bet. Master Race...oh yeah SM and his house will be no doubt taking over the world and BM and his bat characters stop them, save the world.

It's not like this is 25 years to late and unnecessary remember the train wreck Dark Knight Strikes Again was? Or how about All-Star Batman and Robin your Goddamn right that was a hot mess. Unless Azz writes the whole story this mini has no chance of being readable.

And Dark Knight Return was just a one time thing. The sequel was horrible. One of the worst things ever. The kind of prequel to that, All star Batman and Robin was even worse.

I for one am hoping for another comedy goldmine on par with All-Star Batman and Robin.

After All Star Batman and Robin, and Holy terror Im surprised he hasn't been laughed out of the industry.

Holy terror was seriously racist too.

Even his fans only praise a couple of his works, Dark Knight Returns being the biggest one (I think DKR is dreck too and lead to the worst era in Comic Book history, the repercussions of which we still feel from time to time).

But now? He writes literal garbage and actively offends even his peers. His portrayals of Women and minorities are pretty damn disgraceful. He and Liefeld are one in the same to me.

Well at least I get to see caery Kelly and Lara again. So I will not complain and miller ain't drawing.
