Costume Contest #115: SUPERMAN

While I try to follow the unwritten rule of not duplicating past contests, this was last done over 7 years ago and only saw 2 participants. I think we'll draw more this time around.

The world's most recognizable hero. The pillar by which many other characters are compared. Costume Contest #115:

It's hard to mess with such an iconic costume and many past attempts on DC's part have been embroiled in controversy. The Electric Blue era is rarely looked on favorably. The New 52 costume brought debates across fandom on the necessity of visible red briefs. Even the present Rebirth costume is not without it's criticism.

Let's unify the masses and offer a new take on the Man of Steel!

I was actually hoping this one would come up. Given our last 2 highly successful costume creation contests centering around Spidey and Bats, this is the logical next step. Can't wait to see what folks come up with! :)

I decided to go with a version of Superman who, rather than being sickened and de-powered by Kryptonite, uses it as his source of power. So the reactive Kryptonite is interwoven within his suit and he can draw strength and powers from it.

I have two comments.

First, genius concept. His planet should make him stronger, not weaker.

Second, looks SOO evil. And not even just because his costume is black, he just gives me overlord vibes.

I know a thread has been done on this before. The one I remember seeing had, if my memory serves me, about 10 different fan made costumes. I can't remember the topic title though.

@remowill: As far as contests here go, this is only the second time (first one was quite a few years ago) where Superman has been the subject of a costume redesign.

@ZZoMBiE13 interesting concept, is the S on his chest meant to be backwards?

Well if a poor Kansas farm boy can only be "Super" by using a rare mineral, perhaps he'd be under the thumb of a certain well-known Metropolis corporate entity. :)

Decided to actually dedicate my day off to drawing, instead of playing MMO's and here is my design entry.

@bries84: That's great! I love the way the yellow carries your eye over the whole character. It's got a nice flow. Seriously great my friend. :)

In at least one version of the Crime Syndicate of Earth 3, this is how Ultraman (that universe's Supes) gets his powers- by exposure to Kryptonite.

My entry: Went with the classic style (tight fitting, cape, simple) with a Prince Charming look to it (Snow-white's prince in particular).

What if Superman's ship somehow got lost in time on the way to Earth and managed to land in the Middle Ages? What if Superman then declared himself King of Earth to unite it and end conflicts?

I tried to make him more real world: flight suit and gloves, a military issue belt with a pouch because WHERE DOES HE PUT THINGS?! Same with the boots. Military issue with those slips that cover the laces. I tried to leave the cape off but, and this is no offense to those that left the cape out, I just cannot have a Superman without a cape. All in all, I kept it traditional because he's my favorite and it's so hard for me to stray much.

I've had the basic design in my head for a while, I just didn't have the time to put it on paper.

I've been super-late (see what I did there?) in wrapping this one up... but that's it! Voting thread on the way.
