Artist Showcase 2012 - January Submission Thread

It's a new year and a great time to jump in and join the monthly artist showcase. Each month we display art from our comic vine users in various mediums and genres and at the end of the year we look for our artist of the year from the monthly polls.

You can submit one entry per month to any of the following mediums....

MEDIUMS:(pick what you feel your entry fits under)

Best Traditional Drawing (paper/pencil/ink/paint/canvas)

Best Digital (tablet/3d/photo)

Best B&W

Best Color

Web Comic / Strip / Panels / COVERS

For this category you may submit a sample (1 IMAGE) of any Web Comic/Strip/Panel or cover layout that you've produced in 2012. In the case of web comics you should also provide a link to where to view the entire comic.

All entries from above are considered for the genres categories below...

TIMELINE: It's open for work created from the 1st of the month untill the end of the month. There will be 14 days of polling after and winners of each category will be announced on the 15th.

RULES TO ENTER: It would be chaos without them, so here's the premise.

1) There's no set theme, an artist can post any work they've done within that month but they must choose ONE FOR ANY MEDIUM THEY CHOOSE TO ENTER by the deadline (defaults to their most recent unless specified).

2) For their submission choice they MUST include the following information when posting:

MEDIUM : Traditional / Digital / B&W / Color / Web Comic (required - if you don't specify which medium that it's for, it's not a submission)

REASONS FOR CHOOSING : (not required - but offers insight into the artists creative thought)

SUPPLIES / DESCRIPTION : (not required - but offers insight into the artists creative process)

POLLING: the first 14 days of the next month voters will be able to submit there choices for the following criteria before the winners are announced:

All votes will also apply as points to the 'Artist of the Year' ladder which you can track at THIS THREAD HERE.

Each vote will count as a point for the artist and the one with the highest point count will be considered the overall 'Artist of the Month'. Voters can vote once for all criteria or just the ones that they can come up with a choice. I know there's no glory of picking the next theme but it does offer an artist a chance to focus more on different areas of their work and get a decent idea of what parts of their work people do like.

@TypH: great job on everything, always dig your horror stuff and the Sentry shot came out intense :)

Horror is part of the genres which we use all entries for, but what I can do is put black lagoon in for traditional, Sentry as the B&W, and Lotus as the color. That'll get them all in there.

I wanted to do a B&W entry and I I sort of liked how this came out(I actually tried doing similar pieces color and they didn't look as good)

Hmmm i think my "Trish MVC3 Low Voltage" is  going to be my Colour entry.

@LeeThomasART: hahaha, yea that's a definite comedy contender :D

Comedy is part of the genres which include all the medium entries, so we could put this in for 'Color' and that way you can still use the other piece for 'digital'.

@tonis: Sounds good to me, I'll change it now.

Right for Digital i will be Submitting Lilith Mother Of Vampirella and for Black & White ill be Submitting Jocasta

ok one thing I noticed from last year is the 'panels' section could be light on some months. To offer more opportunity to that category I've open up the criteria to include anything where there's some lettering involved.

So a single panel, or cover, is acceptable.

One image I was definitely very happy with this month was a cover for Marvel Genesis Cloak & Dagger being written by Blizaga101. I'd been dying to try these guys and the excuse finally came up :)

for my color I decided to go with my Black Spider. There's just something about seeing Spidey red on a beautiful blonde

@M.S. Feather: lol @ Third Reich from the Sun. That piece really came out sharp, looks like an animation cell :)

@payno: awesome seeing some of your greats of the month, I gotta admit, that traditional is so spot on it's like your channeling Crumb :)

@tonis: I've gone GIMP full time except for Kirbys(I just can't do them justice without my circle tool) :)

great choices, that Hawkeye came out bad ass looking and I totally dug your Genesis work on the mutants

@tonis: Yeah I just wish I had more choices to choose from. But I am working on a kick @$$ B&W watercolor for next month. Its all drawn out I just have to paint it. If only real work didn't get in the way of my fun !
