Artist Show-Off 2.0 Showdown #12: Space Swag

hello guys, I hope you're all doing well, keeping safe out there.

In this next contest, let's go with exactly as the title of the thread reads, let's do a pin up of any favorite or of your choosing space faring character from Comic Books, Cartoons or television posing their best 'outer space swag' you can think of. ie: Optimus Prime on the moon in his best pose, or Green Lantern riding an asteroid. Have fun with it! Any medium you wish, water color, markers, color pencils, black and white.

yh no this is a rather sketchy piece of art. It's one of those pieces which you want to see made, but one you don't have an actual interest in making. So I rushed it. Hopefully Elaine Belloc is swaggy enough (an no-one else submits an entry) to make me a winner :)

Hey, Blackdog2009!

For me, it was difficult to find a character that (1) I liked (2) was an outer space type and (3) had lots of swagger and confidence. Had to look around for a list:

Frieza (Dragonball Z--NOBODY'S got more evil space swag than this character!) Also, Taarna (from Heavy Metal magazine), Vegeta, Ming the Merciless, Deathbird (X-Men), Thanos, Saturn Girl and Wildfire (from the 60s-1970s Legion), Gamora, Voltar (Battle of the Planets--ambiguous space swag!), Sinestro, and General Zod. Anybody wanna add to the list?

@knotty: great suggestions. Ming! ... just occurred to me that I've never drawn Flash Gordon. hmm.

First, GREAT idea for am ASO! In fact, maybe too great. I'm now thinking of characters from the old cartoons and TV shows that were the spacefaring type. Space Ghost, Princess Aura from the old Flash Gordon TV series, G-Force and The Battle of the Planets cartoon -- seriously, nonstop ideas. Which brings me to my second point.

I initially thought to draw Angela from the Spawn and now Marvel holdings books. I'm still deciding if I want to go with McFarlane's original version, or the updated Marvel rendering. Plus, like I said above, I'm getting the urge to do a different space themed character. I'll hold this here for now until I sort it all out.

Here's my quick, down and dirty rendering of Angela in space. I am still tempted to do the Herculoids, Space Ghost or someone like that, but I'd better quit while I'm ahead.

I just wanted to warm up my fingers again but still on the traditional pencil and pen rather than working on the computer directly.

Decided to put something in. First time creating an entire drawing on black paper. Had to blow the dust off my coloured pencils, since I haven't used them in years.

What an interesting set of art. I think I nailed space swag most but I'm not sure if the art quality will take me through.

@blackdog2009: each person who starts a new contest is also responsible for creating the voting thread as well. You've been in these contests enough to know how the rules work now.

@egod: all the times I've done it, the mod puts up the voting thread, has better access to display the art etc and he declares the winner. all the times I've done it, I have not done the voting thread.

@blackdog2009: I did them the last couple of times out of courtesy because you hadn't posted a proper voting thread. Every other contestant submits the voting thread without the mods doing it for them. It has always been this way. You shouldn't expect me to post your voting thread for you every time, as the winner, it is part of your responsibility. My posting of the art etc, as you say, is exactly the same as what you and everyone else has access to.

@egod: Frankly I don't like your tone. I don't expect you to do anything for me. I thought that was the process. As you say, it's not, fine. But this exchange has left a sour taste in my mouth as the saying goes. I'm out. Do whatever you please.
