Okay, we all know of the many talented writers over on the Fan-Fic section and the many talented artists over here. Now, my idea is that each month (or every two/three months), one or more writers and artists will team up and create a 10 (or around there) page comic about their favourite character or a completely original character. This would help readers (who may not like having to drag themselves through 8 paragraphs of detail), writers (possibly more views on your other work as well as finding out what does and doesn't work when it's actually drawn) as well as artists (who can experience what it's like to actually draw a full on comic).

If it doesn't work, put it down as a bad idea and we'll say no more...xD

It also doesn't have to be 10 pages. Could be less if you wanted. If enough people got interested we could create a schedule.

Leadership: CapFanboy, The Poet, Project Worm

The complete collection of writers and artists (being means they are now in a group)

Artists: 7 without partnership

  • AweSam
  • Blizaga101
  • blur1528

  • blur1528
  • DamianWayne

Writer-artist schedule

@CapFanboy: Are you kidding me? I'd love to have a chance to have some of my writings illustrated. I would gladly team up with an artist to create something hopefully fun and entertaining. It would be a great learning process for everyone involved, and would give a chance to help people improve and build upon their ideas, especially for those aspiring to break it into the big time down the road. I am all for this idea.

Sounds like an interesting idea... but I take so long to draw something that I'm SUPPOSED to be drawing... It's like an unholy mixture of both laziness and procrastination.

I did a 24hr comic a few years back that was kind of like this idea. We just had a simple story that ran the whole book but each writer and artist took that and made it their own. Each story started from the last page of the story before. And we had like a 48 page story at the end. But I'd be down for a very short story, 5 or so pages.

I've noticed that a lot of the fan fiction in the fan fic forum is written in story form. It would be a massive help to the artists if the writers could write in script form. This would make it much easier to interpret and visualise the story. Here's an example:

Page 1
Splash page. Worm’s-eye view of Superman, battered, bloody and bruised leans on a large machine. He barely has the strength to hold himself upright. His veins are pulsing, pus oozes from his bruises. He’s in the shittiest shape you’ve ever seen Superman. In his arm he is cradling the limp, lifeless body of Lois Lane. Her eyes are open, rolled backwards in her skull. Her hand lies limply on the ground. This is Superman at his lowest. The machine Superman is leaning on is the support of a large K-Bomb. A kryptonite powered bomb equivalent in force to an atom bomb. A chunk of pulsing green kryptonite, as big as a man’s head, rests at its center, held aloft by slim metal rods. There should be a timer somewhere in the panel, counting down from 5 minutes (just so that we’re not dead even on 5:00, we’ll make it something like 4:52).
Batman’s boot is at the extreme foreground, to the left of the page.

Batman: Clark.

Superman: Bruce… They…

Superman: They killed… Luthor--

Superman: Darkseid--

Superman: Braniac… they… snapped her neck, Bruce.

Superman (small): They just…

Batman: Let’s get you out of here, Clark. Away from the K.

Page 2
1/ Batman pulls Superman out of an underground bunker onto a mountainside. Superman can’t even stand on his own, he has to be dragged outside. Batman is clearly straining to keep Superman from crushing him.

Batman: I’m going back in. Have to shut down the bunker. Reinforced Lead shielding will contain the blast.

2/ Superman is sprawled on the ground outside the bunker, his eyes are slightly rolled back, he looks like he’s going to pass out any minute.

Superman (small): It’s… Lois… ok, Bruce… bunker… shutting down.

3/ Angle on. We see the heavily reinforced bunker blast door starting to slowly grind down.

Superman (small): Reinforced… contain blast.

4/ The blast door closes completely with a large crash. Superman faints.

Superman (small): Reinforced… shut down…

SFX (door): DSH

5/ Completely black panel.

Superman (tailless): Bruce.

Page 3
1/ Two-Face’s bedroom, it’s designed in classic Two-Face fashion, with half the room being very elegant and clean, the other half messy and grungy. Two Face walks in the room from the right, slightly drunk. He is holding a champagne glass in one hand, and a beer in the other.

Two-Face: You girls get comfortable, I’m just going get something to make the night a little more… fun!

Batman (op): Harvey.

2/ 2-shot of Two-Face and Batman. Two-Face looks shocked, Batman is dark and serious, as always, he is taller than Two-Face is.

Two-Face: You!

Two-Face: I heard you were dead.

Batman: I’m not.

3/ Two-Face is ribbing Batman in a “if you know what I mean” fashion. Batman just stands, stoic, looking down at Two-Face. In his other hand he is holding his signature, two-headed coin.

Two-Face: Tell you what, since you’re not, let’s celebrate.

Two-Face: We’ll split the girls. I’ll take the blonde, you’ll take the brunette.

Two-Face: No!

Two-Face: I’ll take the brunette, you can have the blonde.

Two-Face: Better yet, let’s flip for them.

Batman: No, Harvey.

4/ Over the shoulder shot of Batman from behind Two-Face. He looks a whole lot bigger than him, practically towering over the meek looking Two-Face.

Batman: You’re stopping Harvey. I’m stopping you. I figured it out.

Batman: You’ll stop once you’re together again.

Batman: It’s time to be whole, Harvey.

5/ Two-Face’s living room, designed in a similar fashion to the bedroom. On a large sofa in the center of the room are the two girls, passed out drunk. The door to Two-Face’s bedroom is open, on the left, but we can’t see inside it.

Two-Face (through door): No… no… what are you…

Two-Face (through door) YEARRRGH!

6/ Same shot, it’s later in the night. The lights in the living room are off, the girls are no longer there.

Bard (through door): Jee-zus!

Bard (through door): How does this happen?

Bullock (through door): I don’t know, Bard.

7/ Two-Face’s room. Jason Bard and Harvey Bullock are standing over the corpse of Two-Face. Two-Face’s entire face is now scarred and mutilated, not just half of it.

Bullock: But I guess Two-Face ain’t a right name no more.

Page 4

1/ The Cave. Batman stands with his back to us, his cowl down, staring at the huge screens. They are displaying various profiles of Batman’s rogues - Riddler, Killer Croc, Joker. Alfred stands at the bottom of the staircase leading up to the computer terminal.

Alfred: Commissioner Gordon just called. Quite an impressive turnout tonight.

Alfred: Mr. Freeze, frozen and smashed to pieces. Scarecrow, torn apart, scattered around. And now Two-Face, the other half of his face mutilated.

Alfred: Are we calling it a night?

Batman: No. I’ll clean it all up. Gotham, then Keystone, Central City, Metropolis. I’ll clean them all. I owe him.

2/ Close on the back of Batman’s head. It is turned away from us, so we can see the back of his neck and one exposed ear.

Batman: Harley.

Batman: Arts Museum.

Alfred: Very well, I’ll alert the police to be there in thirty minutes as usual--

3/ Batman, who we now see is Clark Kent, is pulling up his cowl. His eyes glow red with warming up laser vision.

Alfred: --Master Kent.
Just thought I'd mention it.

I agree, it's only natural that the writers write the story and panels and the artists illustrate it all. did one for some Spiderman story.

It really depends on the artist, though. Granted, most artists prefer to have everything laid out for them, but some other artists like having just brief descriptions of what happens on each page, allowing them much more creative freedom when illustrating, rather than being confined to exactly what's written. Of course, it takes a good artist to pull that off without butchering what the writer had envisioned, but that's why communication between the writer and artist is so important. The writer might be creating the story, but the artist is bringing it to life, and it is very much a collective effort.

Alfred: --Master Kent.

I agree, that's why I signed on as a writer and artist. I trust the artists are talented and will do a great job, but I really wanna bring my stories the way I envisioned them.

@CapFanboy: Wow man, congrats on the list of participants. I had a similar idea for the RPG forum, and it's only a day younger than this. Didn't rip your idea I swear lol

Hmm, Maybe we can see if some of these artists would interested in our project?
