A work in progress...

I've had some bad insomnia this week, and of course when I can't sleep, I draw.

So this was the what came out the first night:

and the final result:

So what do you guys think? I'd love some opinions. Constructive criticism is very welcome.

Thank you, it's like a cartoony side of realism I think ^_^ real realism is hard to get i think... maybe that's just me... I think I want to work on the hair some more... more shading and maybe add a few highlights.

ive never tried pencil crayons. i think i should as they seem to bring out alot of texture :D"

They make a texture of their own. It's pretty awesome. Just need to learn to work them right.

I used to do my scientific illustrations in coloured pencils. The richness of the colour really shows how good you are with them, and the texture is good an even.

Here are my first impressions:

First faery lady - She scares me, her beauty seems at odds to something that I can only describe as hag or old crone. Reminiscent of the picture that depending on which way you look at it is either beautiful dancer or an old hook nosed crone.

Second dragon lady - She looks fierce, to the point where she doesn't eat enough because her quest consumes her so. The dragon, and I am assuming it is a dragon, seems like it is more of a faery dragon, with elements of a mare and an eagle mixed in.

Third dragon with ball - It is dragon who hoards power and will stop at nothing to gain more archaic power, at which the fantasy world around it shudders in pure dread.

Overall - They other things are impressions, so let it be clear that the drawings themselves are so refined, it borders on professional work or simply is its own style and begs others to even dream of creating images so profoundly detailed and subtle. In other words, great stuff!

Thank you, and yes, insomnia is a bitch when you really don't want it.

Here's one that I did a long while ago. It's all done in a fine point sharpy... one that was very dry by the time i was done with it... and if you've ever worked with sharpies in an enclosed space for long hours before, you could only imagine the headache I had after this was done! It was worth it though i think. I don't draw backgrounds often, as you may have noticed... and this is a perfect example as to why... I get way too carriedd away in little details that become too overwhelming in the longrun.

Thank you. If you are drwing people, I would suggest studying anatomy with different magazines and watching for different textures and lighting effects in an image. For other things I can only offer specifics, so if you have any questions just ask.

Awesome pics Crimson.

I like the first one, I actually thought how much cooler the movie "Legend" (the one with Tom Cruise.) would have been if the pixie had looked more like that and less like a 12 year old with a glitter addiction. I really liked the amount of detail you put into the picture.

The Dragon and Rider were beautiful, again your art made me think. This time I was reminded of a series of Books called the Dragon Riders of Pern, it was cool, but the book could have used some of your pics to help it out.

The Dragon with the glowing object was nice. Made me laugh when the words Dragon, Ball and cool were in the same thought without me arguing with someone like Broly2. Again the lighting and the pics were cool as hell.

The Dyradpic was really eye catching too. I liked theway you used the black and white spaces so effectively, awesomely done.

I like the mechanics that you used for the way the hips are, very nicely done. I also like the spines curvature, it makes the werewolf look more like it is pushing it's upper body out and away from the wall. The originality of the pic is nice too. Good job again.

It's kinda rough, I sketched it up today out of bordum.

All right first off, your Nightmare is f*ing awesome, my favorite character too, Love the blend of colors in his pic, the haze makes it look like you are seeing him a dream like state. The Elf looking girl is cool too at the bootm, the staind glass looking bottom one rocks hardcore. The Dragon rider makes me want to watch Heavy Metal, I used to read those and the original movie is a Halloween tradition along with Rocky Horror. The Gothic angel is my favorite though. The Hair and the wings add a lot of character to the pic and the poss compliments her well.

Glad you like them! I have a couple colored vesions of the "Heavy Metal" dragon rider:

I like the browinsh background one better, kinda keeps your attention on the rider and dragon more than the other one. The first one makes the eye wonder sometimes, it has little details that distract people with ADD like me. Still, I like the way the dragon sits, and the rider is kinda hunching like the dragon's stance is forcing her to find her balance.

I like the variety of pics you have. The dragon ones are all very nice. I like how the dragons are less threatening by the interaction they have with the characters in the pics. The one with the two women is kinda odd, the one in the front looks almost afraid of who might be behind her. The one with the two men's faces looks familiar. I have an idea of why, but I can't think of why that comes to mind. The detail in it and the first picture is phenomenal. Your attention to detail is very precise. The last one with the scythe girl is cool too. What inspired that?
