    X is the older son of Speed Racer.  When evil forces came after Speed, he hid his younger son, Speed Jr, in an orphanage. 

    Years later, at Headmaster Spritle's Racing School, X and Speed Jr were reunited.  Both have a natural knack for racing.  It remains to be seen which is the better racer.
