"THE INVISIBLE GIRL HAS VANISHED" X-Factor has relocated back to New York, and their first client is a keeper: Franklin Richards, whose mom has disappeared and who figures that the premiere detective agency in the Marvel Universe has the best chance of finding her. Except Reed Richards doesn't seem especially cooperative in helping them locate his missing wife. What is he hiding, and does it have anything to do with the coming Darkness? Meanwhile, Val Cooper has some bad news for Monet: Her ambassador father has been taken prisoner by terrorists, and she has less than 24 hours to find him before he winds up getting his head cut off on video.

Having relocated back to New York because there's only so much business you can get from the Great Lakes Avengers, X-Factor is hired by Franklin and Valeria Richards because their mother, the Invisible Girl, has gone missing. Upon going to the Baxter Building, X-Factor is stonewalled by Reed Richards, while the original stone wall, Ben Grim, gets into a throwdown with Strong Guy and Shatterstar that results in Ben being literally thrown down to the ground. A lone Bobby pin on the floor of the Fantasticar allows Longshot to use his psychometric powers to determine that Sue was kidnapped to Latveria, and he encounters in his vision none other thant Layla Miller who appears to be allied with Doom. Meanwhile, Monet returns, only to be informed by Val Cooper that M's father has been taken prisoner by terrorists who have one demand: Monet herself.
