In the summer of 1593, William Shakespeare and his troop of actors travel to Wendel's mound in the English countryside. There, in the in the outdoors they perform the play 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' for Lord Morpheus and his guests, Titania and Auberon, king and queen of the fairy realm, and a number of their subjects. This is part of a bargain Shakespeare made with Morpheus in The Sandman issue #13.
This story won the World Fantasy Award in the 'Best Short Fiction' category.
It is the first and only comic to ever have done so.
