Overview
"The Guide" as it is known plays a part of a narrator in the series
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by
Douglas Adams. It is often used to expand upon topics brought up in the novels, sometime useful to the plot sometimes not but always in a humors way.
The guide itself is about the size of a hardback book and has a slipcase that reveals a small screen and keyboard. It acts as an encyclopedia that is geared towards travelers as a reference to the information you need to know. In a typical twist of Adam's humor the entry for Earth initially contains a single word "Harmless"
After many years work on the entry by journalist
Ix (aka Ford Prefect) the article is updated to "Mostly Harmless" indicating how insignificant our world really is in the grand scheme of things. We aren't even on the fashionable end of the Milkyway.
