Hulk must protect Namor from a mob when the Atlantean royal arrives in New York City.
Namor shows up in New York, causing chaos as everyone wonders why he is there—to promote another Atlantean invasion. The Hulk sees how Namor is being treated and tries to help his old friend, only to be knocked aside by a misunderstanding Namor.
Hulk, not one to be toyed with, now attacks the Sub-mariner.
In the Soviet Union, Tania Belinsky, the Red Guardian, is brought into the headquarters of Project: Sergei. It’s mysterious leader is said to be the power behind everything that goes on in Russia.
Belinsky tries to escape, but is caught and put under technological mind control. The guards bring her to their leader: The Presence. He explains that he is in love with her, and wishes for her to be his (mind-controlled) consort. He is physically sick, and she has a mental problem, but he has devised a process that will transform them into beings of great power and full health—and all it will do is require a nuclear explosion that will destroy half of Europe.
As the Hulk and Namor’s battle causes destruction throughout Manhattan, Patsy Walker and Nighthawk decide to see if they can calm the combatants.
Valkyrie watches her first-ever movie with Ledge and Dollar Bill, but is annoyed with a man who is smoking right behind her. She grabs his pipe and breaks it. When they go out for donuts afterwards, they run into the man again—it is Professor Turk, who teaches drama at ESU, where Val is planning to register for classes. He apologizes and they discuss the havok recently caused by the local vigilante, Lunatik.
Hellcat manages to distract the Hulk, who recognizes her, and Nighthawk reminds Namor that he is a Defender like the rest of them. He explains that he had come to New York because of radiation leakage near Atlantis. He needs help entering the irradiated area to find the source of the problem. Nighthawk suggests sending in the Hulk, who is resistant to radiation, and Namor agrees.
