In the wake of the Cataclysm, Wayne Manor's defenses have been destroyed and only one thing stands between looters and the discovery of the Batcave: Alfred Pennyworth. Plus, Huntress searches for a vanished school bus, and Renee Montoya's brother tells her about one of his jet fighter battles in the Gulf.
Featuring Greg Rucka's first published DC work, "Random Encounters," a prose story about Renee Montoya's brother, Benny. This story follows shortly after the rocky first meeting between Renee and Two-Face (Two Down," from Batman Chronicles #16), as evidenced by the fact that Harvey Dent has left but had entrusted Renee to hold onto his coin. When Benny Montoya expresses deep-seated depression and guilt over his actions as an American fighter pilot in Qurac, Renee uses the coin to give her brother a harsh but loving lesson about the burden of free will.
