Born in Germany and raised in Augusta, Georgia, Tamra knew she loved to draw from a very early age. In 1997, she was accepted to the prestigious Davidson Fine Arts magnet school in Augusta – one of the top public arts high schools in the country. After graduation in 2000, Tamra attended Augusta State University as an art major but, after a few years, decided she wanted to focus more on illustration.

In 2006, she moved to Dover, New Jersey to attend The Kubert School – the only accredited trade school devoted entirely to the instruction of sequential art, comic creation and commercial illustration. Founder Joe Kubert (1926-2012) was the legendary artist behind DC titles Sgt. Rock and Hawkman beginning in the 1940s and was inducted into the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1997.

Since its founding in 1976, The Kubert school has trained artists who have worked in all aspects of the comic and film industries including DC, Marvel and Darkhorse. Joe was in his 80s and still part of the faculty when Tamra started school there. He was her sequential art instructor for one year. Joe’s sons Adam and Andy were also members of the faculty.

Before graduating, Tamra began working freelance for various comic book companies such as Dynamite, Boom, Zenescope and IDW – mostly as a colorist. In 2012, Tamra moved to North Augusta, SC to pursue freelance illustration full time.
