Creation
Power Princess's shield first appeared in Marvel Comic's publication of The Defenders issue 112 in October 1982 and was created by JM DeMatteis and Don Perlin. Power Princess was a member of the Squadron Supreme who's concept parallels a DC Universe character Wonder Woman. The shield was thought up as an alternative to Wonder Woman's magic golden lasso, which could be used as both a defensive and offensive armament.
History of Power Princess's Shield
The sophisticated race of Utopians from Earth-712 were created by the Kree through specific genetic experimentation. The Utopians were the alternate versions of Earth-616's Inhumans. As a result, the Utopians were far more advanced than their human cohabitants on Earth. As the outside world created and used atomic warfare the Utopians which practiced as a culture of peace would decide to leave the planet Earth. The Utopians had used their advanced technology to create an almost indestructible transparent shield. The shield was gifted to the chosen ambassador of their culture named Zarda by her fellow Utopians as they left for the stars.
Functions of the Shield
Power Princess carries an almost indestructible transparent shield which is used for defensive purposes, but is also used as an offensive tool. It is made of unknown, unbreakable transparent material and the aerodynamic shape of the shield allows it to glide with pin-point accuracy. The shield's innate materials and can cleave through even steel. Power Princess is able to use the shield to deflect projectiles, ram into opponents, and hurl it great distances. The shields durability is so strong that it has resisted repeated impacts by Hyperion. When thrown or just being used for a blunt strike, the shield increases the force of her punches while she is holding it. She has used her shield in almost all areas of combat and it has come to represent as a symbol of her Utopians ideals, almost serving as her standard.
