The Magi series is loosely based on the One Thousand and One Nights, a collection of various short stories and folk tales from the Middle East and South Asia during the Islamic Golden Age. Morgiana is based on the slave girl of Alibaba in Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. Her name Marjāna (مَرجانة) comes from the Arabic word for "coral", Marjān (مَرجان ). She begins the series as a slave, but not the slave of this series' Alibaba. Once freed from slavery, she becomes the willing companion of Aladdin and Alibaba Saluja.

Fans had often speculated that Morgiana doesn't wear underwear, and that was confirmed in the notes of some concept art. Part of the description says "Noパンツなので (No pantsu nanode)".

When she starts to run, she exerts such force that the ground under her feet crumbles, she makes holes in the walls as she run. However, at the start of the series, she could only run up about 20 feet up the wall. Later on in the series, Morgiana is able to run up walls that is in excess of 50 feet without trouble.

Her strength allows her to carry up to 7 people and still run at incredible speeds. She can take out monsters many times her own size with a simple kick.

She can let out a roar that she uses to scare monsters and sometimes to find her way around dark caverns. Her metal vessel increases her powers exponentially although she prefers not to use them.
