    Amanda Blake played the role of a strong and independent Kitty on the legendary CBS Gunsmoke series for 19 seasons from 1955-1974. Gunsmoke was the longest running Western in television history lasting 20 years. The only season that she missed was the final season.

    Matt would never marry Kitty in the television series as he feared that making her his wife would endanger her. However, despite this fact, it was well known that she was his girlfriend and so her life was threatened numerous times during the 19 years they were together.
