Jessa

Origin

Jessa was a barkeep during the Hyborian Age.

Creation

Jessa was created by writer Michael Avon Oeming and artist Mel Rubi. She was created to serve as the first named character in the first Dynamite Red Sonja series, aside from the title character. She later returned as a character with little more to her backstory.

Major Story Arcs

Jessa was a barkeep who was instructed to take Red Sonja's dagger from Sonja, and after doing so, Sonja killed everyone in the town apart from Jessa, and instead, she was chained to a tree. Jessa eventually freed herself and trained herself to use a crossbow, becoming rather skilled, and then had her opportunity to exact her revenge on Red Sonja. She fired one bolt into Sonja's shoulder, but as she moved closer to her target, Sonja stabbed her in the back, causing her to die a painful death.
