On November 24, 1924, Jacques Devos was born in Brussels. Before starting comics, he worked for twenty years in his father's bicycle business. In 1961, he began comics by writing mini-stories for the newspaper Spirou. From 1962 to 1965, he wrote the screenplay for Tim and Tom and, from 1963 to 1968, that of the series Whamoka and Whikilowat for Louis Salvérius. From 1964 to 1966, he produced the script for Djinn for Kiko. With Hubuc, he produced Alertogas and Victor Sébastopol, then resumed this last series alone from 1964. In the mini-stories, he himself created many series: Schwartzbrot, Superherman and above all, from 1963, the Génial Olivier series which features an extravagant and dull inventor. From 1969, Génial Olivier became the regular hero of mini-stories published in the pages of Spirou. In the late 1960s, Devos produced two Steve Pops albums for Casterman. From 1969 to 1972, he drew Les Farfeluosités de Devos. In 1970, he was the author of the educational chronicles La Petite histoire des armes à feu and Secret weapons, eccentric weapons in Spirou. From 1973, a great lover of firearms, he frequented Michel Deligne with whom he shared his passion. From 1974 to 1979, he was the author of the series Les Extra-terrestres, always in Spirou. In 1984, from this last series, he published a long science fiction story entitled L'Étoile Verte. In 1988, the Génial Olivier series was interrupted in Spirou after having known seventeen albums. In 1990, Jacques Devos appeared in the Snuls program entitled Plus ou less net, broadcast on Canal+ Belgium where he played, under his own name, a parody of a cartoonist.
