Iona Vane

Origin

In the 58th Century the Solar Council presides over the government of many worlds. When the counsel faces a threat beyond their control the use their advanced technology to transport the Green Lantern to aid them. The counsel never reveals their actions to the Lantern, instead brainwashing him into believing the is their legendary hero Pol Manning. To ease him into this identity, the counsel brainwashes the presidents beautiful secretary Iona Vane into believing that she and Manning are lovers. At various times, Iona Vane has loved both Hal Jordan and Salaak; both Lanterns having assumed the Pol Manning persona. A somewhat tragic figure, Iona is abused by her superiors heartless methods as she is forced to say goodbye to her love each time their mission has been completed.

Iona was created by John Broome for his run on Green Lantern.

The Challenge from 5700A.D.

Iona Vane is present when High Council of Solar Delegates of the 57th century meets to discus how to handle the latest threat to Star City, the Zegors. She is also present when Chairman Dasor suggests bringing Green Lantern from 1960 to the year 5700. He then suggests because of the use of time travel will erase the Green Lantern memories new one need to be implanted including the love interest of woman, and since Iona is single she shall play that part. Iona agrees because she has used the Timescope to watch the Green Lantern's adventures and she has feeling for him.

When Green Lantern arrives, Iona is there to help explain the events of the the Zegors attacks and she watches Green Lantern fly off to fight them. Later Green Lantern watches when Iona is ambushed by a Zegor blast that shrinks her to become smaller than an atom. Green Lantern shrinks himself to find her and tell her to stay while he works out a plan.

Later after defeating the Zegors Green Lantern uses his ring to make Iona back to regular size, then before Iona can confess her real love, Chairman Dasor transport Green Lantern back to 1960 where Iona continues to watch him on the Timescope.

Green Lantern's Statue fights a War

When Green Lantern returns to the 58th century, Iona is there again to play the part of his love interest, but this time Iona seems to have more love for Green Lantern then he has for her. Again before she can confess her love he is transported back to the 1960s.
