Hidden deep beneath AREA 13 lies the clandestine headquarters of S.T.A.K.E.--a top secret division of S.H.I.E.L.D. housing aliens, mythical beasts, and all manner of extra-normal entities. Under the command of legendary soldier DUM DUM DUGAN, these monsters step out of the shadows and defend the world against supernatural threats too dangerous for normal men as THE ALL-NEW, ALL-DIFFERENT OF S.H.I.E.L.D.!
In oder to defend earth from supernatural threats S.H.E.I.L.D has established the S.T.A.K.E (Special Threat Assessment for Known Extranormalties) division.Housed in a bunker deep under area 13, S.T.A.K.E takes on missions dealing with creatures of the night and dark forces of the unknown. Dum Dum Dugan was K.I.A becoming a ghost consciousness hoping from LMD to LMD (Life Model Decoy). He has recently been commanded by S.H.E.I.L.D to lead S.T.A.K.E's field team comprised of Zombie Jasper Sitwell, Manphibian, Vampire by Night, Orrgo, Man-Thing, HIT-Monkey, and Teen Amboniation, reporting directly to Captain Reyna aka Warwolf. The team consists of known extranormalities under S.H.E.I.L.D observation (held in captive until a mission arrives and they get to "stretch thier legs.) Together they are the Howling Commandoes of S.H.E.I.L.D.
Thier first mission takes them to a oil tanker where the crew has become vegetation based zombies due to corruption from the Earth Idol of Golthana. They make quick work of the zombies. Teen abomination is able to extract the idol, but once the idol is disturbed Vampire by Night reports the zombies have formed a sort of hive mind and they swarm Teen Abomination. Not only that but a large mass of living plant life emerges from the lower deck. With their back to the wall Dugan declares a Code green and Man-Thing is dropped from their aircraft over head. Orrgo (who stays back at S.T.A.K.E command acting as mission control) alerts the team any who know fear will be burned by Man-Thing, he is able to destroy the newly arosed monstrosity. The Howling Commandoes are able to destroy all the remaining zombies but it seems the Idol was linked to the hulking monstrosity for it is destroyed shortly after.
Maria Hill declares the mission a failure as they were ordered to recover the Idol. The Commandos are ordered to return to base and are placed back in their cells. Dugan goes to grab Zombie Sitwell, not wanting to leave anyone behind. Sitwell, while a member of their team doesn't have full brain capacity and mistakenly blows up Dugan with a RPG. Dugan awakes in a new LMD reporting to Hill that his mission of sizing up his team was a success. He will make this team worth of the Howling Commandos name.
