    After Hydra's attempted take over the United States, Las Vegas was left destroyed. Doctor Strange attempted to use magic to restore the city, including the people who died, thus giving Mephisto the opportunity to take over. He erected a hotel to serve as his base of operations, but when a team of magic users led by Strange defeated him, it was left standing to serve as Mephisto's prison. Johnny Blaze took his throne in his absence.
