Little can be known of the past to the man known as Hemingway. He was a drifter who settled in a flat with Anthony Ludgate, then Doctor Druid , accompanied with other transients during Dr. Druid's false death and separation from the Defenders living in New York City. Hemingway has assisted Druid in his mystical investigations against occult criminals, mostly acting as a point of contact or salesman for his services which lead Druid to battle a false god made by the Second Assembly. Upon the defeat of the false god and betrayals from the Cult of Kali priestess Nekra, Druid would lose his powers on the taboo or geiss of falling in love with a witch only to later sacrifice Hemingway to his altar oak tree to reclaim his powers and combat Smoke Generals, Redeyes, and later become killed by Hellstorm. Hemingway has since become a ghost seen only by Baby Icon and a lost spirit of many in New York.

Powers/ Abilities: Hemingway was a poor combatant and exhibits few super-human powers beyond minor magical talents substantial to Dr. Druid or high-end magicians. A skilled grifter and con-man, he is talented in sensing people of magical abilities and financial status, this skill maybe itself mystical or mutant by nature is unclear. Since killed, Hemingway is now a ghost who attributes of such abilities, though it remains seen if he'll ever return.
