Memento

In a bleak basement, Harmony (unaware of her name or any memory of herself) barely awakens in cold sweats. As she opens her eyes a slit, she notices a light at the foot of the stairs above. Minutes later, she finds a candle lit at her nightstand. Examining the area where a syringe was administered on her arm, Harmony struggles to gain some mobility by moving out of bed. She appears to be wearing a lavender button dress shirt to sleep in. Though as she tries to walk a few steps, Harmony collapses to the ground from a lack of energy.

Reawakening in her bed a third time, she finds a tray of food placed there. As she begins to eat, Harmony is startled at the sight of her host, a tall imposing man with long gray hair and beard. Frightened, she covers under her bed sheets as the mysterious man decides to leave her be, but not before introducing himself as "Nita". Then it shows Harmony running through a sort of endless white limbo, sensing the presence of someone before dropping to her knees begging for help. Waking up, she believes this to be a nightmare. Minutes later, Nita returns with something on a tray for her. Harmony starts to accuse Nita of giving her amnesia due to the needle marks on her arm. Nita denies ever doing any harm to her, stating that she's been suffering from a high fever and her lack of remembrance is caused by a head trauma. Harmony becomes even more defensive when Nita reaches his hand out and her eyes glow in a blue light as she demands not to be touched. Showing that she has nothing to fear, Nita offers his help to the skeptical girl.

They begin by having Harmony try to walk again in order to strengthen her legs from entropy. While taking her recovery steps, Harmony states that she still doesn't remember anything. Things get even more tense when she experiences a headache and becomes difficult whenever Nita gets near her. Nita explains that he found her at the foot of a rocky path two days prior and has been keeping watch on her until she got better so he could notify the authorities. Harmony, distressed about being kept in a basement, becomes angry that Nita didn't do that sooner and the fact that his dwelling is in an isolated area without a phone line. Seeing how wary the girl is, Nita agrees to have Harmony placed in another room in a day. After giving her a pill for her headache, Nita leaves, but not before mentioning that he'd bring a bucket (to act as a latrine), disgusting Harmony enough to make her spit out Nita's pill the second he left.

Once asleep, Harmony finds herself in limbo-like void. This time, she holds her head in pain as she hears two different voices telling her to wake up. When she does so, Harmony continues to hear the voices overlap and irritate her. Only when she holds her head and yells, "ENOUGH!" do the voices go silent, leaving Harmony to tear up in the dark after driving away the presence of someone else that could've helped her.

The following morning, as promised, Harmony wakes up to find herself in a makeshift bedroom in Nita's attic that has a window view of the forest. Moving around, Harmony looks through the window and sees Nita collecting wood into a large pickup truck. Seeing as her host is outside, Harmony makes a dash to the bedroom door. The moment she grabs the doorknob, she notices its locked from the outside. Try as she can, Harmony just can't seem to budge the door loose as she slumps to the floor, beat. "From the basement to the attic. That's some promotion." Harmony ponders to herself.

Getting up, she looks around the bedroom and finds a notebook on the desk with a pen. Flipping through the blank pages, Harmony wonders aloud if Nita purposely left the notebook for her to write her memoirs of being held in his house before tossing it aside, upset. A while later, Harmony starts to jot down what little memory she has in the notebook. Lying flat on her stomach, Harmony still can't make sense of what she's written as she feels like her brain's locked shut. Closing her eyes, she begins to concentrate in the hopes of triggering a flashback to three days back. Opening her now glowing eyes, Harmony is shocked to see her pen hovering a few inches as if she were controlling it with telekinesis. The shock causes her to clumsily tumble off the bed and hit her head on the floor.

Rubbing her head, Harmony wonders if she just hallucinated but at the same time, the sensation felt familiar. Focusing her power again, she begins to wonder if she indeed fried her brain. Just then, she senses Nita coming up the stairs and quickly stops what she's doing and hides her notebook. Entering the room, Nita finds the girl, under the bed sheets, and asks if she's okay as he heard a noise. With her denying anything, Nita lets her know that he's brought her a pot of water with a towel for her to wash up along with her now cleansed clothes, a pair of Jean short shorts and a black T-shirt. He also brought her another pill in case of headaches.

On his way out, Nita asks Harmony if she's hungry and invites her down for dinner. Nita leaves, this time leaving the door unlocked and reminding her to take her medication. Harmony wonders what he's up to with him now allowing her about his house. Deciding to put her notes on the backburner, Harmony gets out of bed to take her pill. And by "taking" her pill, Harmony just wedges the tablet in between the planks of her bedroom floor.

Coming down to the dining room, Harmony, now dressed in her clean clothes, is asked by Nita to take a seat while he's preparing their meal.
