Groo, again looking for work, and perhaps a decent village to protect, comes across a pillaged town, with only devastation and destruction.
Although he can't help this village anymore, he decides that the next village the pillagers get to, will need his help. So he follows the path of destruction. As he sleeps for the night, he stumbles across his old friend Taranto again, who he forgives for trying to kill Groo (issue #2). Taranto and his large band (who definitely haven't seen any thieves around), agree to help him find the pillagers.
At the next village, the elder reluctantly agrees to hire them as guards, and Groo is sent to keep lookout on the hill. As he is turned away, the thieves sneak in behind his back and have been pillaging the village! As Groo runs in to fight them, he discovers that Taranto was the thief, and set him up to be killed (again).
Angry with Taranto, he heads to a city too big for him to attack, and again looks for work. The only work he finds is as a 'serving wench'. He overhears some customers talking about a battle they are going to have against the bandits, with their leader Chakaal. Groo asks them to join, but he ends up slaying them before discovering the name of the city. As with the next lot of soldiers, and the next (Ask first, then slay, Groo). Groo is fired for killing the customers (before they have paid), and goes out to find Chakraal himself.
Running down the street he sees a woman warrior being called Chakaal, and being informed that her men have all been killed by a man called Groo. Groo falls in love and follows her, wanting to join her, but she pushes him away, looking for this Groo. As she finds out that he is Groo, they fight, until Groo tells her that he knows Taranto, and can help get him. She agrees to only kill him after they've defeated Taranto.
They go out to find a town to defend, and build a fence around it, leaving only two entrances, Groo guarding one, and Chakaal the other. Taranto decide that it will be easy to draw Groo from his post... which it is. Groo returns to the sound of battle, and runs to save his Chakaal.
With his men fighting both Chakaal and Groo, Taranto decides perhaps this wasn't the best idea, and disguises himself.
As the battle is finished, Groo runs out to find Taranto, while Chakaal discovers him disguised as an old man. She takes the reward, and leaves for the North. We leave Groo running out after her.
Because the Groo story was longer, this issue doesn't have a Sage story.
