Beginning in 2004 and running in the fall of almost every year since, the Gold Future Cup is a competition between one-shots by up-and-coming mangaka to select which is most popular and theoretically, serve as a breakthrough for the creator to start a serial in the magazine.

The two biggest winners in the competition's history were Beelzebub and Nurarihyon no Mago which both were made into serials that ran for twenty-eight and twenty-five volumes respectively. However, not every winner necessarily becomes a serial, with some creators instead launching a unique serial and in some cases, the winner isn't the first one to get a serial.
