Darkoth is revealed to be a puppet under the more sinister hand of Diablo, who has been forcing the former friend of Ben to attack him for the reward of a life-giving antidote.
In the end, Darkoth chooses the honorable death over betraying those he once called friends, but not before taking Diablo with him!
