The Face Thief is a demon from the world of the Shinma, a realm of evil and darkness. The Face Thief is also known as Kao-Goto-Suru that has caused chaos with members of the Masters of Silence for centuries. The Face Thief took the identity of a great and noble warlord named Tezuka. Disguised as Tezuka, he led his loyal followers to a hopeless rebellion against the Emperor. Of those betrayed by the Face Thief, only three warriors survived. Those three warriors were Inazuma, Kaze and Kaminari and would form the Masters of Silence to follow the path of vengeance.

During an epic battle with the Masters of Silence's predecessors, the Face Thief was confined within a work of art. Recently a wealthy industrialist named Creighton McCall purchased this work of art. The Face Thief escaped when Creighton McCall accidentally dropped the work of art. The Face Thief killed Creighton McCall and stole his identity. The Masters of Silence discovered that the Face Thief has escaped and asked Tony Stark for assistance. Tony Stark knew who Creighton McCall was and had a brief romance with his daughter Meredith McCall when they were teenagers. Tony Stark and the Masters of Silence realize that the Face Thief took the identity of Creighton McCall and that Meredith McCall was in danger. Iron Man and the Masters of Silence would infiltrate the McCall estate and take out a few guards.
