“DEATHMASK!” An ancient mask of a South American god of death is worn by a succession of men driven by it to kill, and Batman must discover the reason why.
Batman stars in "Deathmask!" When an ancient mask is displayed in Gotham City, it has strange effects on certain people. The mask of Matichuma is said to give its wearer power over all and so it is no surprise when someone steals the mask and clashes with Batman. The Caped Crusader discovers his opponent is now doing extraordinary things and it is now evident that the mask is controlling the person, rather than the person underneath being in control. Learning that the mask always gave its wearer death dealing powers in the past and that warriors who wore it always led their tribes to victory, Batman closes in on its current encumbent. However, before he can get to him, he is shot dead by a know associate. Turns out that the killer of the man wearing the Matichuma mask held a grudge against him, and the wearer of the mask wanted to frighten his killer.
A new series begins this issue - Manhunter. The story begins in Nepal as Manhunter seeks to return to his former home - to the one who raised him - only to assassinate the one known as Dharmata. Wearing various guises, Manhunter completes his mission and escapes - but everywhere people are looking for him. For how long can he keep running?
