Tich Burton was small, weak and cowardly, a misfit in any British infantry unit, especially in the bitter winter campaign of 1944 as the Allies slogged their way towards the western borders of Germany.
Thirteen was an unlucky number for an infantry platoon but Fred Green's veterans weren't bothered by the superstition - until Tich Burton was posted to them.
So how could an undersized coward be made to change his ways and become part of the hard-hitting team? Thirteen Platoon had to find the answer, and find it quickly. And that meant Tich would have to learn to be a real soldier - the hard way.
