    Far off course, a viking longship comes across a waterlogged canoe adrift on the high seas. They rescue the red-skinned passenger who they come to call Arak, and he joins them on their raids. But when the viking raiders come across an abbey that has already been conquered by strangers from the far East, they must fight for their very lives!

    This issue ends with an essay by writer Roy Thomas entitled, 'A Short History of the World, DC ~ Style', in which he unnecessarily recaps a history of Dark Ages events. In the final paragraph Thomas finally gets to the point, that Arak is basically a 'what-if' magic had really existed during the Dark Ages scenario.Of course if you read the story before the back matter, this would be even more unnecessary, as it's pretty much apparent that that's the case.
