Apollo was a member of an alien race who came to earth millenia ago and posed as greek gods to humans, inspiring their mythologies. However they where pursued by the being know as Chronos. To save his son, the alien called Zeus send him to the future using the Omphalos stone. That future would be the 21 century, present day, where Apollo became a teenage superhero and befriends others sidekicks.
However, after the dissapearance of all the adult superheroes, Apollo became obssesed with being considered a god again and tried to rule above all the remaining sidekicks, stablising brutal gladiator games. This attittude was born of the fear because Apollo understood than Chronos was attacking the earth again. He was brutally defeated by Kid Vigilante, who had other plans for the self appointed god.
