Floris De Smedt was born in Asse on November 17, 1978. He grew up in Groot-Bijgaarden, a town on the outskirts of Brussels. He has always had a love of comics. From the age of 6, he read Flemish classics such as Jommeke and Urbanus, before moving on to a wide range of series, like the works of Luc Cromheecke and Johan De Moor.

At the age of 17, he enrolled at the Sint-Lukas Institute of Graphic Arts in Brussels, where he first got his master's degree in animation followed by one in comics, under Nix and Johan De Moor.

He published cartoons of his comic strip character The Professor in magazines such as Demo, Ink, Zozolala, Zone 5300, Myx, Knack Focus and Kramix. From 2002 to 2007, he produced comics for De Randkrant, including the comic Randman. In 2003, he became a cartoonist and illustrator for Fakkeltjes magazines. From 2005 to 2008, he also worked with Margreet de Heer on Nino en Nena for Jippo (Malmberg) and with Gert Wastyn on De Zwuqies for Farfelu. In 2004, he joined the team of cartoonists at Spirou magazine, under the editorship of Thierry Tinlot. He published a short story in the Le Professeur series in no. 3447 and another in no. 3567, as well as illustrating various editorial columns. Then, in 2011, he single-handedly created the Capitaine Anchois comic series about a pirate captain in search of treasure. The series continues in 2024. It has been collected in albums in its Dutch version by publisher Syndikaat since 2018 (6 volumes). The series earned the author the Plastieken Plunk (nl) Public Award in 2015 and the Stripschappenning youth album of the year for the second volume Over een andere boeg in 2018. In Dutch, some pages of Kapitein Ansjovis are published in Jump magazine, Tienerfakkel, Fakkeltjesmagazine, as well as the now discontinued comic magazine Maxix, where his one-off comic Midlife-skater also was pre-published in parts, before the album publication by Syndikaat in 2023.

In 2019, he self-published the collected works of The Professor series and he moved to the city of Mechelen, which serves as the backdrop in his comic Midlife-skater..

He also pays tribute to his colleagues who were victims of the Charlie Hebdo attack in 2015 in the collective album Spirou défenseur des droits de l'homme in 2019.

Since 2015, he works independently in the studio of De Geslepen Potloden in Schaarbeek.
