The End and the Beginning
What can I say about Flashpoint #5 that hasn't been said already? This issue is a masterpiece! It makes the entire series worth reading.
Flash and Reverse-Flash have their long-awaited exchange, in which Reverse-Flash reveals that it was Flash himself the one who changed the timeline. Once again, Reverse-Flash tries to kill Flash, but Thomas Wayne kills him with an Amazon sword. Flash then proceeds to change the timeline back to normal, but not before Thomas gives him a letter addressed to Bruce. Flash then has an emotional farewell with his mother and changes reality, intercepting his past counterpart and merging with it to prevent the Flashpoint universe from being created. Then, a new universe is born. In the new universe, Flash goes to the Batcave and gives the letter to Bruce, who sheds tears. Aww, that's so sweet!
I didn't like that the issue didn't show what happened to Penthesileia and Orm, the traitors that tried to destroy Wonder Woman and Emperor Aquaman, but this isn't a major problem. Flashpoint is about Flash, not about these two backstabbing jerks.
Bruce's reading of the letter was an emotional moment for this character. I was deeply moved by Thomas's sacrifice to save his son. But I also liked that Thomas said that he is sorry that Flash's mother had to die so that Bruce could live.
With the end of Flashpoint, an era is over and another begins. The past is behind us, let's move on to the future.
Good reading!
