Has a Flare for the Dramatic
OK, so I'm not a big fan of Flare nor of the Heroic Publishing's stable of heroes. I got this book since it was regarding the holiday and found the cover story to be about Thanksgiving but also regarding racism. The "racist" in the story is a 12 year old girl who resents Flare, the new girlfriend of a man in this black family. Everyone else accepts her, especially as she can float around with super-powers. The story does not end well, really. The girl finally comes to grips but goes through an act just to be accepted. At the end Flare says that the girl is not necessarily a good girl but she'll learn. The other stories were uneventful. Two women who are fans of the comics of Heroic Publishing, chat endlessly about what they like about the comics. Talk about cheap publicity! And they take on, temporarily, the powers of their favorite heroines. The how and why of this sudden occurrence was not explained nor well-written. Overall a disappointing issue but it is my first issue. The women in this series are very hot and dramatic, but also drawn with an air of arrogance that I don't normally see in the Big Two publishers. I did enjoy the cover, which is a swipe from the Saturday Evening Post cover, complete with font size and design!
