Last week Marvel released teasers focusing on the fears of different characters. We've all wondered what new event they were preparing us for and the wait is over. Today during a live press conference all was revealed.
Joe Quesada took the podium and was joined by Tom Brevoort and Axel Alonso. Quesada brought up the poor economy and hard times and asked who should you trust. Fear above all else is a great motivator.
A trailer was previewed showing the teasers with FDR's audio. Matt Fraction, Stuart Immonen, Wade Von Grawbadger and Laura Martin will be the creative team. What happens when fear and despair becomes too much. What heroes will be left standing.
A Summer event beginning in April 2011, the Marvel heroes will be facing the God of Fear. They will be fighting a world ending threat. "Who will be the eight most worthy on the planet?" Matt Fraction said (via video from his bunker), this will be the biggest story they've ever told.
The series will be seven issues on a scale comparable to Civil War. Ed Brubaker and Scot Eaton will do the prologue with Captain America, Namor and the Invaders in WWII. Brevoort stated, "There is a concealed act at the heart of the Marvel Universe that once revealed will change everything."
A complete story will be told in the core Fear Itself issues but it will carry over to the other books in Marvel including characters like Avengers, Hulk, X-Men and Dracula. There will be pacts and alliances between characters you wouldn't expect.
- The giant future timeline seen recently The Avengers was mentioned. There is mention of FEAR on there as well as the question, who will be worthy?
- The fate of the Fantastic Four and the recent FF teaser was brought up. All that was said is those surviving will be dealing with this event.
- Matt Fraction will continue writing Thor and Iron Man. He's scaling back in Uncanny X-Men.
- Stuart Immonen will be off New Avengers to work on this.
- The price will be $3.99. The first issue will be a massive over-sized issue.
- What will be Bucky's fate since Steve was shown in costume? Apparently Brubaker has plans and Bucky is currently involved in his trial.
