A reboot with a lot wasted potential

I will start off by saying I have never read a Fantastic Four comic, but I can see the promise in this film before it is choppily ended. I was really excited for this film before that excitement was destroyed by the overwhelming amount of negative reviews. Though I think the reviews are very harsh, this film is still very bad. I will say one of the many complaints for the film that I personally didnt have an issue with was the lack of witty one liners like in Guardians of the Galaxy and Iron Man. Im guessing since this was a common complaint on rotten tomatoes that these characters are known for these witty one liners, but I wasnt expecting the film to have them so I wasnt disapointed by the lack of one liners. I was expecting the film to be a sci fi based superhero film that dealt with the characters dealing with their new abilities and these characters progressing and becoming not only a team but a family. Unfortunately it didnt really end up like that. This movie had alot of promise. The first 50 minutes or so are really good as it sets up the characters and promises to take them farther. I also like that it also promises a body horror based origin of their powers and it would have been really good to see their powers develop in this angle. In fact we dont even see their powers progress at all because it skips forward a year. In fact we dont see any development whatsoever. We dont get to see the heroes, the villain, or the team develop into the characters they are supose to be. This is an area that an origin story should focus on. In my opinion, an origin story should show how the hero or heroes get their powers and how their character develops into the hero. Another big issue is the fact that this movie is an hour and forty minutes and it spends the first hour building up to the point where they get their powers and the last forty wrapping everything up. With as much time that is spent on the first act you would expect the film to be longer. Since it spends so much time spent on the first act you dont get to see the characters taken very far and their is hardly any action in it. There isnt a problem with having a small amount of action as long as that time is spent on character and plot, but this film doesnt do that. I also know that there were alot changes from the comics, but since I havent yet read their comics I cant really point out those changes. I didnt really mind that that Sue and Johnny werent actual brother and sister if the film did something with the adoption. Unfortunately these characters dont really spend much time together. In fact the four dont spend that much time together so when they do ultimately team up it feels hollow and forced. Another change that I didnt really see the point of was the fact that Sue Storm doesnt go to Planet Zero and gain her powers that way. It seemed like a needless change. This may have been the case in the Ultimate comics I dont know. I just dont really get the change. Overall I would say this isnt nearly as bad as people are saying it is, but it is also a wasted opportunity. This film not only could have been a way to start a new superhero franchise, but alao a way to get people more interested in reading their comics. I know it didnt make me more interested in where this is going and I dont know if made me more interested in their comics. I hope if there is a sequel it will focus on building more character and having more action showcasing their abilities. I would say this movie isnt the worst superhero film, but it is far from a good superhero film. I would say that you will probably be disapointed or frustrated after the film ends and wondering how it ended up that way. I dont really know if I would recommend this film or not. I would just say be prepared to be underwhelmed.

FANTASTIC FOUR REVIEW - How Bruce Wayne kicked me out of the theater leaving the movie all alone! 0

So I show up at a friend's house unannounced. He and his wife are happy to see me nonetheless. Upon being invited in, my friend makes me a sandwich as his lovely wife pours some tea. He even offers me a bottle of ale he got from a local brewery to try. In this more than comfortable setting we chat and catch up for roughly 40 minutes. Suddenly their home phone rings and the mood changes. My friend asks what I'm still doing here while his wife questions why I haven't finished eating. I must appear...

      Not Fantastic, but it's a 4 alright 0

When they first announced a Fantastic Four reboot years ago, I was actually pretty excited for it. Ever since I got into comics I’ve been a fan of the FF, and I wanted to see them get a good movie. Sadly, as time went on, everything I heard about this movie kept killing any excitement I had in it. The little interest I still had in it was killed by the overwhelmingly negative reviews it got. I watched it a few days ago, and after giving it a little time think I have my opinions on the movi...
