    Holy Crap! 10

The final issue of the Fantastic Four. Can it top the previous issue now that we know who died?  The Good This issue was amazing. My goodness. I read it in the cab on the way back from the comic shop and was blown away. By now, you should know that Johnny died. You can probably guess what this issue will deal with. It doesn't matter, you won't be prepared. Jonathan Hickman superbly tells the sad story of everyone dealing with the death of Johnny. The way it's presented here simply works (I won't...

    A Loss For Words 1

So. Here we are. The final issue of the Fantastic Four. Is it at least good? Spoilers ahead.  Oh yeah. To be honest, I actually don't care for the art of the main story so much. Epting took the month off and we got Nick Dragotta instead. I am not too familiar with his style. But then after going through the story, it seems to fit the issue well. The facial expressions really tell the tale and get you feeling what the character is going through. Dragotta and Hickman sure paired well here.   I do ...

While I haven't been following Johnathan Hickman's run on Fantastic Four completely, the few issues of his I did read were simply amazing. With no doubt his place is writing the First Family.  The Good  I am unsure if this is a spoiler or not, but this is mostly a silent issue. I think I mentioned this once or twice before, but silent issues are always a hit/miss topic for me. Silent issues are, for the most part about expressing emotion without the need of words. Usually, this is something...

    Fantastic Finale 1

Only a few weeks have passed since the epic "casualty" in Fantastic Four #587. Now that we know who is the member of Marvel's First Family who died, we are presented with the aftermath and the subsequent mourning. With one more issue to tie things up (before F.F #1), Jonathan Hickman breaks the news to the family and friends, the result is a spectacular tale of family, memories and a very emotional goodbye for the fallen Torch. Let's take a look at Fantastic Four #588:  PLOT:  The Four are finis...

    A Picture says a thousand words 1

Cover I love the cover and I think it is one of those things you can take in a different perspective. My perspective of the cover is the back picture of the whole team is in the past that is the reason it is in the background. Then the reason we have Sue, Ben, and Reed all crying and sad because of Johnny’s death and they know they have to move on. Story The story was all about the team reacting to Johnny’s death. Best Part I really like how they told the story with art and not with words. As th...

The End of the Fantastic Four? 4

If you can't tell already, I am a huge fan of the Fantastic Four. I have read all 588 issues to be brought to this "final" issue.  Wow.  Let me say that again, Wow.  Where do I start?  The art. As with many many "death of..." stories, there is no room for words. In a very classy manner, the art says all the things that words cannot. The images of Ben Grimm showing his complete devastation over the loss of his best friend brought me to tears.  Ben's Grief Seeing each member of the family wor...

    Fantastic Farewell 0

Doing comic books stories without words is a complex and hard task - I remember when Marvel did a kind of challenge in 2004 or 2005 publishing only issues without letterers - and this issue wouldn´t be as great and emotional as it was if it had letter so I guess it was a home run this editorial decision to publish the "last" Fantastic Four issue without words, just images expressing the feelings around the heroes, each one grieving the passing of the Human Torch by their own way. And this was a ...
