The Deluxe format is the size of choice for me, when dealing with stories I love. It is not to big and it is a hardcover, meaning better binding. Hardcovers look better on your shelf and last longer. If you haven't invested in Fables, then this is the book to get. It collects Volumes 1 and 2 of the trades and has some extras in the back. It is more then the price of the two trades combined, but the quality is drastically higher. These Hardcovers should balance out closer to the prices of the respected trades come later releases.
The book reads really smoothly and by issue 10 I was hooked on the series. This to me is the Gateway collection to fables.
Fables is the most celebrated of the current Vertigo Series and why not get the best version? If you are new to comics it is a nice way to slowly get your feet wet. These hardcovers are currently far behind compared to the trades, so you can read fables this way and try out something out as well like Y: The Last Man, which is also in Deluxe format.
Trust me the Deluxe is a great format. So pick this up and take a coffee break to enjoy Fables gone wild in city.
